📋 Description

• Design and build foundational backend infrastructure including authentication, permissions, feature flagging, notifications, and document management integrations for Harvey’s enterprise-grade AI platform.
• Build and evolve Harvey’s internal product platform to accelerate development across multiple product lines and engineering teams.
• Lead development of enterprise-facing features such as secure multi-party collaboration, cross-organization workflows, and robust admin controls tailored for law firms and professional services.
• Maintain high standards for security, privacy, and system reliability, particularly when handling sensitive legal data from enterprise customers.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product, AI, design, and go-to-market teams to deliver scalable, enterprise-ready user experiences.
• Own and operate critical platform layers that enable secure, reliable, and flexible interactions with Harvey’s AI-powered legal tools.
• Work on systems that directly impact how users engage with Harvey’s platform, balancing deep platform architecture with hands-on product iteration.
• Contribute to a culture of decisiveness, simplicity, and relentless ownership, adhering to the values: Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job’s Not Finished.
• Operate in a hybrid work model requiring 3+ days per week in-person at the Toronto office, with 2 days remote.
• Participate in building the foundational engineering team in Toronto as a founding member of the local office.
• Ensure all backend systems support scalable, enterprise SaaS patterns including role-based access control (RBAC), feature flag systems, and third-party integrations.
• Ship user-facing features with measurable impact while maintaining strong programming skills and computer science fundamentals.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with 1500+ customers across 60+ countries, where product-market fit is proven and growth is accelerating.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years (post-BS/MS) of backend-focused software engineering experience on platform and/or product-oriented teams
• Experience working across the stack to ship user-facing features with measurable impact
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, REST/gRPC APIs, databases, and scalable service architectures
• Experience building backend platforms that can support multiple product lines
• Strong attention to detail
• Familiarity with or interest in enterprise SaaS patterns such as role-based access control (RBAC), feature flag systems, and third-party integrations is a plus
