📋 Description

• As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Data Acquisition Team at WEX Inc., you will architect and lead the evolution of a scalable data ingestion platform that enables secure, reliable, and high-throughput data flow from hundreds of internal and external sources, powering enterprise-wide analytics, AI, and product experiences.
• Day to day, you will lead the design and development of modular ingestion frameworks supporting batch, streaming, and event-driven pipelines; architect core components like data routing, transformation orchestration, lineage tracking, and schema evolution; mentor engineers; establish best practices in code quality and observability; collaborate with domain and DataOps teams to accelerate onboarding; and ensure traceability, security, and performance across diverse data sources.
• You will join WEX’s Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform team, a critical enabler of enterprise data strategy, where engineers tackle foundational platform challenges at scale—ingesting billions of records across diverse systems to drive innovation in analytics and AI.
• In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, data engineering, and platform architecture while gaining leadership experience in mentoring, cross-functional collaboration, and shaping long-term technical strategy for a high-impact data infrastructure.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or another systems-focused language
• Strong years of experience as a software and data engineer in high-volume or distributed systems environments
• B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field; M.Sc. a plus but not required
• Experience with data integration and ingestion pipelines, including schema evolution, transformation, and reliable downstream delivery
• Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals: version control, modular design, testing, and performance tuning
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, observability, and role-based access control concepts
