📋 Description

• Senior Software Engineer, Engine & Distributed Systems at Stack AI Inc. to own the durable runtime engine that powers AI agents on the platform, ensuring correctness, scalability, and reliability at any scale.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include owning the execution engine (runtime, scheduling, sub-agent parallelization), building checkpointing and recovery for long-running work, shaping the execution model for synchronous/asynchronous work, engineering for scale and reliability (health targets, deploy safety, drain time), and keeping the engine open to ecosystem integrations (new agent harnesses, orchestration frameworks, model capabilities).
• Join a lean, high-impact team at Stack AI, a no-code platform for designing, testing, and deploying AI workflows powered by large language models, where your work directly impacts every customer’s agent execution and ships fast across the product.
• Opportunity to solve one of the most interesting distributed-systems problems in AI today — owning end-to-end correctness of the engine that enables agents to run reliably, learn deep systems expertise, and grow into advanced areas like durable execution, fault tolerance, and high-throughput backend optimization.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years building backend systems in production with real depth in distributed systems
• Hands-on experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration (Temporal, Cadence, Airflow, or equivalent), with a way of thinking rooted in idempotency, state machines, and failure recovery
• Strong command of concurrency, queueing, retries, and fault tolerance under load
• Strong in Python and modern backend frameworks (FastAPI or similar), with sound database fundamentals (Postgres or similar)
