đź“‹ Description
- • At Jerry Technologies, Inc., we're building the future of car and home ownership management, creating the first super app to empower everyday Americans. We are a fast-growing, profitable company with a mission to tackle a $5 trillion+ problem, scaling from 5 million to 50 million users. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack, Backend-leaning) to join our remote-first, global team and play a pivotal role in shaping our platform.
- • This isn't just another coding job; it's an opportunity to make a tangible impact. Our engineers consistently highlight the unparalleled sense of ownership and autonomy they experience here. Unlike at other companies where engineers might wait for approvals or dependencies, at Jerry.ai, you can conceptualize, build, and ship your ideas rapidly – sometimes within days. As one engineer put it, “At other companies I made very little difference. Here, if I have a good idea, I can go do it.” This direct impact is visible immediately, with your work reflected in real customer behavior, often within the same week of deployment.
- • Our engineering culture is defined by a lack of bureaucracy and politics. Leaders, including our CTO and tech leads, are hands-on coders who uphold exceptionally high standards. As one team member shared, “The leaders here lead by example. They have very high standards. They don’t settle for just OK.” This environment fosters challenging yet meaningful work, requiring engineers to juggle new and old systems, context-switch frequently, and engage in continuous learning. You will experience a level of trust and autonomy that is rare in the industry.
- • The culture is characterized by curiosity and collaboration. Team members readily assist each other, push for growth, and learn collectively from every mistake. A powerful anecdote illustrates this: “I once caused a bug that wasted $20K in AWS costs, but no one blamed me. They only cared about how to prevent it next time.” This supportive and growth-oriented atmosphere is a cornerstone of our success.
- • As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in building and enhancing the automation systems that manage complex insurance servicing tasks. This includes end-to-end processes like policy endorsements, cancellations, document uploads, and reinstatements. You will also focus on developing features that reduce policy cancellations, improve renewal rates, and ensure our users consistently receive the best coverage available.
- • You will work within fast sprint cycles, with an average shipping time of new automations within 1–2 weeks. This rapid iteration allows for quick feedback loops and continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will involve composing robust backend business logic that drives these automations, meticulously respecting the intricate rules and regulations of insurance carriers.
- • Designing and implementing efficient backend pipelines will be a key part of your role. These pipelines will be responsible for synchronizing customer policy data, delivering timely and critical alerts to users, and powering seamless re-shopping experiences. Furthermore, you will optimize and scale our internal tools, such as our in-house DocuSign equivalent for servicing, with the goal of minimizing agent intervention to near zero.
- • Collaboration is central to our workflow. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering operations to proactively identify and address customer churn, thereby improving overall customer retention. Our team operates remotely and asynchronously across North America and Asia, utilizing tools like Asana and Slack for communication and project management, with minimal mandatory meetings but a strong emphasis on shared context and collaboration.
- • You will continuously contribute to the improvement of our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. We are currently undergoing a significant refactoring effort to simplify legacy systems, rebuild core functionalities, and establish a scalable foundation for the next three years of platform growth. Your contributions will be crucial in building this next-generation architecture.
- • Our tech stack includes TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, and Expo for frontend and backend development; GraphQL for our API; Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, and Redis for data storage; and AWS, microservices, containerized services on ECS/EKS, and asynchronous processing on Lambda for infrastructure.
- • This role requires a strong technical foundation in data structures, algorithms, and systems design. You should be a proactive problem-solver, adept at tackling ambiguous challenges, breaking them down into actionable code, and iterating quickly. A strong sense of ownership and a collaborative spirit are essential, as is a curiosity and adaptability that drives continuous learning and exploration of new tools.
- • Join us to work in a flexible, fast-moving, and highly collaborative culture where innovation is encouraged, your voice is heard, and the impact of your work is immediate. You’ll tackle meaningful challenges, learn, and grow alongside talented peers in a company that is disrupting a massive market.
