Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end delivery of the VA Health and Benefits Mobile App, a flagship product that serves millions of U.S. veterans and their families. You will architect, build, and ship new features in React Native that directly improve access to healthcare, disability compensation, education benefits, and other critical services.
- • Lead a cross-functional squad of designers, product managers, QA analysts, and fellow engineers in two-week agile sprints. Translate user research and VA policy requirements into technical stories, estimate effort, and sequence work to deliver incremental value every release.
- • Establish and uphold engineering excellence across the mobile codebase. Define lint rules, automated testing patterns (unit, integration, E2E), CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions, and release pipelines that push builds to TestFlight, Google Play Console, and the VA Enterprise App Store.
- • Champion accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508) and privacy-by-design principles. Implement screen-reader-friendly components, encrypted local storage, and secure network layers that safeguard personally identifiable information (PII) and protected health information (PHI).
- • Debug and resolve production incidents across iOS and Android, leveraging crash analytics, logging, and monitoring tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, CloudWatch, and Sentry. Perform root-cause analyses and post-mortems that prevent recurrence and continuously improve system reliability.
- • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and career-development plans. Model empathetic leadership, provide actionable feedback, and create an environment where teammates feel safe to experiment, learn, and grow.
- • Represent MO’s technical brand in client pitches and proposal development. Distill complex architectures into clear diagrams and narratives that win new work with federal agencies. Occasionally travel (~10 %) to Washington, D.C. or VA facilities for discovery workshops and stakeholder demos.
- • Contribute to the broader MO engineering culture by leading lunch-and-learns, writing internal tech blogs, and open-sourcing reusable libraries when appropriate. Influence technology choices, advocate for modern DevSecOps practices, and help scale our impact across multiple government projects.
- • Balance speed and quality while navigating the compliance landscape of FedRAMP-moderated environments. Work closely with security officers to complete Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation, vulnerability scans, and penetration-test remediation.
