Senior Software Engineer (Remote)

📋 Description

• • Architect and own the end-to-end lifecycle of Portcast’s predictive-logistics platform, from whiteboard sketches to production-grade micro-services that ingest billions of data points daily from satellites, marine-weather feeds, economic indices and airline manifests.
• • Design, build and harden Python/Flask APIs that expose real-time cargo-volume forecasts, ETA predictions and dynamic pricing signals to global freight forwarders, shipping lines and cargo airlines—handling 90 % of ocean trade volume and 35 % of air trade value worldwide.
• • Debug and optimise distributed systems running on AWS (EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS, Kinesis) at petabyte scale; implement auto-scaling, blue-green deployments and chaos-engineering practices to guarantee 99.9 % uptime for mission-critical customer workflows.
• • Collaborate daily with Product Managers, Data Scientists and Customer Success across 10+ time-zones to translate complex supply-chain pain points into elegant technical solutions; run discovery workshops, write RFCs and present architectural trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• • Lead the evolution of our event-driven architecture—introduce Kafka topics, schema registries and exactly-once semantics so that new data-science models can be plugged into the pipeline without downtime or data loss.
• • Champion security and compliance: design IAM policies, encrypt data in transit & at rest, and ensure SOC-2 and ISO-27001 readiness as we onboard Fortune-500 manufacturers and top-tier airlines.
• • Establish and automate CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Terraform) that cut release cycles from days to minutes, enabling the team to ship features weekly while maintaining rigorous test coverage and rollback strategies.
• • Mentor junior engineers through pair-programming, code reviews and brown-bag sessions; institute coding standards, observability dashboards and SLOs that raise the bar for engineering excellence across the remote-first organisation.
• • Experiment with emerging technologies—evaluate Elasticsearch/OpenSearch for geospatial queries, Spark for large-scale feature engineering, and Rust or Go for ultra-low-latency services—then document findings and drive adoption decisions.
• • Contribute to open-source communities and represent Portcast at meetups and conferences, sharing how predictive analytics is reshaping global trade and reducing carbon footprints through smarter route optimisation.
