As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Rust within our Product Engineering team, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing the core products that power Kraken's global trading and payment experiences.
• Our Product Engineering teams operate at the critical intersection of crypto markets and customer experience. Every technical decision you make will have a direct and tangible impact on our users, from individual traders to large institutions, influencing revenue streams and the overall evolution of the crypto ecosystem.
• You won't just be an executor of tasks; you'll be a co-creator. Collaborating closely with Product and Design teams, you will bring your strong product intuition and a sharp focus on user impact to shape requirements and technical direction.

• Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain robust Rust services and libraries. These will form the backbone of our trading, payments, and diverse crypto experiences, with an unwavering focus on reliability, exceptional performance, and positive user impact.
• You will be crafting reusable, testable, and highly efficient code. This code must be designed to scale seamlessly across multiple teams and support revenue-critical systems, all while upholding the highest standards of safety and security.
• A significant part of your role will involve collaborating on the architecture of large-scale distributed systems. You will translate evolving product requirements into resilient, low-latency solutions that can handle the demands of a rapidly growing global platform.

• We expect you to take complete end-to-end ownership of the systems and libraries you develop, from initial design through deployment and ongoing maintenance.

• You will be expected to apply a security-first mindset throughout the entire system design process, ensuring that our platforms are robust, secure, and trustworthy.
• Debugging complex issues across the entire technology stack – including the operating system, network layers, and application code – will be a regular part of your responsibilities, requiring a deep and autonomous problem-solving approach.
• A solid understanding of distributed systems and related technologies, such as RPC protocols, message queues like Kafka, and event-driven architectures, will be essential for designing and implementing scalable and resilient solutions.
• You will actively participate in requirement gathering sessions with product teams, understanding constraints and translating them into appropriate system designs that meet business needs.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience building customer-focused products, with a strong preference for experience in the fintech or cryptocurrency industries.
• Proficiency in writing network services or asynchronous code, specifically in the Rust programming language.
• Demonstrated ability to autonomously debug complex issues across the full stack (OS, network, application).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts and technologies (e.g., RPC protocols, Kafka, Event-Driven Systems).
