📋 Description

  • • Binti is seeking a highly skilled and product-oriented Senior Staff Full Stack Software Engineer to join our rapidly growing, mission-driven team. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of social services software, leveraging cutting-edge technology, including AI, to drive positive impact. This is an opportunity to take significant ownership of technical projects, influence architectural decisions, and contribute to a product that helps vulnerable families and communities.
  • • As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will be instrumental in leading architecture discussions during feature development, ensuring that all projects are built with soundness, reliability, and performance at their core. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing user experiences for our internal engineering teams, making their day-to-day workflows more efficient and productive. You will be deeply involved in full-stack coding, with a primary focus on backend development (approximately 60%) and a significant contribution to frontend (approximately 40%).
  • • A key aspect of this role involves mentoring other engineers, sharing best practices in software engineering, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. You will be responsible for optimizing the performance of various components, focusing on both latency and throughput, and ensuring these optimizations are monitored in a scalable manner. Furthermore, you will guide incident response and vulnerability remediation efforts, ensuring the security and stability of our platform.
  • • Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with Product Management to effectively scope and execute product features, always aligning with Binti's core values. A strong emphasis will be placed on the longevity and maintainability of the codebase. You will be expected to identify and advocate for patterns that promote flexibility, scalability, and approachability for all engineers on the team.
  • • You will be a catalyst for our team's velocity and learning, contributing to a welcoming and supportive culture. This includes pushing our product forward to maintain its status as a beautiful, intuitive, and accessible interface for a diverse user base. Championing security and privacy is paramount, and you will actively seek ways to enhance the safeguarding of sensitive data, including HIPAA compliance, and embed security best practices throughout our development lifecycle.
  • • Sample projects you might spearhead include the development of entirely new product areas, such as child intake processes or community crisis response systems. You will also evolve existing configurable platform features, like scheduling or application requirements, transforming them into reusable, high-performance layers that can adapt to diverse workflows across different states and counties. Additionally, you will architect the engineering design for storing and managing complex, configurable relationships between individuals, extending beyond traditional biological connections, and facilitate the transfer of applications between agencies, meticulously accounting for variable workflow setups and agency-specific permission configurations.
  • • We are looking for engineers who possess a startup mindset, are comfortable taking initiative, and can deliver Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) rapidly. Your ability to effectively project manage and your excitement for leveraging modern tools and AI to enhance efficiency and output quality will be highly valued. You should have a demonstrated ability to architect, build, and maintain configurable systems that streamline workflows in critical areas like foster care. Cross-functional collaboration with product, technical account management, policy, and other teams is essential.
  • • You will have the opportunity to work across engineering teams on projects that not only elevate our own systems and designs but also those of other teams. A passion for delivering products end-to-end, from initial ideation and scoping through to implementation and maintenance, is crucial. You will be excited to dive into our existing Ruby on Rails and React architecture, writing foundational and expansive features that will shape the future of our platform. Prior experience with product development on a web application is strongly favored. While Ruby, Rails, React, or GraphQL experience is a plus, experience with configurable enterprise software, or even better, government-facing software, is a significant advantage.
  • • We deeply value engineers who are self-motivated, independent, and enjoy owning projects from inception to completion. You should possess solid programming foundations and extensive full-stack experience, with a proven track record of building, shipping, and maintaining products end-to-end. A growth mindset, a sense of urgency, and a willingness to challenge the status quo are key attributes. You should be excited to level up your own skills and bring your colleagues along, leveraging modern tools and AI to achieve this. A history of overcoming obstacles and achieving success is highly desirable, as are excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. While Ruby skills are a strong plus, experience with Rails, React, and/or GraphQL is also beneficial. Curiosity, extensive experience, and excellent judgment will further enhance your candidacy.
