- • As a Senior Staff Industrial Designer at Waymo, you will define and own the long-term industrial design vision and strategy across multiple complex product areas, driving alignment on scope and strategy in highly ambiguous environments while working with external partners to co-develop designs.
- • You will act as a key strategic partner to leadership across Product, Hardware Engineering, UXR, and Operations to drive decisions on complex user needs and technical requirements, ensuring design excellence is championed and mentored across the team.
- • You will own, articulate, and evolve the physical product design language for Waymo’s hardware, ensuring strategic alignment with the Waymo brand and user experience goals at an executive level, while leading CMF and manufacturing strategies in partnership with operations and global suppliers.
- • You will lead and influence the integration of industrial design into vehicle program development schedules, serving as a point of contact for the ID team and leading execution of program timelines negotiated with cross-functional stakeholders.

- • The team operates as a unique fusion of creatives and innovators involved in every step of engineering and product development to optimize technology and delight the rider’s journey, offering the opportunity to pioneer a new industry in a hybrid work schedule reporting to a Head of Industrial Design.
- • In this role, you will elevate the entire team’s craft, process, and strategic thinking by mentoring other designers and championing design excellence while integrating industrial design work-streams into larger hardware development schedules from early concept to mass production.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of deep, hands-on design experience from working directly within one or more automotive OEM design studios (e.g., Ford, GM, Toyota, VW Group, Rivian, Tesla, etc.)
- • A proven track record of leading multiple, complex hardware products from ambiguous early concepts to successful mass production
- • Exceptional 2D and 3D design skills, with mastery of sketching, digital rendering, 3D CAD (e.g., Alias, SolidWorks, Rhino), and rapid prototyping techniques
- • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to influence and align senior leadership and executive stakeholders around a design vision
- • A world-class portfolio of work demonstrating strategic, systems-level design thinking, exceptional problem-solving, and meticulous attention to detail and craft
- • A degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
