📋 Description

• As a Senior Staff Software Engineer at Gusto, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our Integrated Benefits team, focusing on enhancing system extensibility and scalability while pioneering new advancements in Gusto's Benefits ecosystem.
• This role is centered around being a technical leader and architect, driving complex projects from conception through to successful implementation and ongoing maintenance.
• You will play a pivotal role in designing and building robust technical foundations and reusable components, often referred to as "LEGO blocks," which are essential for supporting our Voluntary Life and Disability (vLiDi) products and facilitating seamless integrations with external benefits providers and brokers.
• A key aspect of your responsibility will be to architect intricate, interconnected technical systems that contribute to the overall scalability of our platform, leveraging your expertise within a Ruby on Rails environment.
• You will be at the forefront of tackling ambiguous and challenging architectural puzzles, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to evolve existing systems towards optimal states and deliver innovative solutions.
• Mentoring and developing fellow engineers will be a significant part of your role, fostering a culture of deep ownership, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving within a high-performing, self-organized team.
• You will actively influence the product development lifecycle for platform capabilities, from contributing to initial feature specifications to ensuring the long-term health and maintainability of the code that underpins our core user experiences.
• A crucial objective is to elevate the productivity of our product engineering culture by developing and implementing shared tools and reusable capabilities that empower teams to accelerate their development cycles.

🎯 Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated technical leadership on complex platform or product engineering projects.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, with a strong understanding of architectural patterns and best practices for building maintainable, structured, and well-documented code.
• Deep knowledge of data structures, data modeling, and system design, particularly in the context of complex, interconnected systems.
• Proven experience working across multiple teams, influencing product and team direction, and advocating for technical health and reusability.
• Experience engineering, designing, building, and supporting large-scale systems in production, ensuring high reliability and scalability.

• Competitive salary with targeted range of $223,000/yr to $279,000/yr for San Francisco.
