- • As a Senior Staff Software Engineer on Reddit’s ML Indexing & Retrieval Platform team, you will lead the development of next-generation systems that power machine learning-driven recommendations, content understanding, semantic and lexical retrieval, and GenAI applications, directly impacting how 126 million daily active users discover and engage with content across 100,000+ communities.
- • You will own the full lifecycle of platform development—from ideation to production—designing and implementing scalable, low-latency retrieval services, defining observability and reliability best practices, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with product, infrastructure, and ML teams to ensure the platform evolves with Reddit’s growing ecosystem.
- • The ML Indexing & Retrieval Platform team builds and scales the core infrastructure for ML data ingestion, batch and stream processing (using Flink, Airflow, Spark), and end-to-end lifecycle management, enabling real-time access to high-quality data for critical applications across Content Understanding, Search, Feeds, Ads, Growth, and Safety.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in large-scale distributed systems, vector and lexical search technologies (e.g., Milvus, Vespa, Elasticsearch), cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, Docker, AWS/GCP), and technical leadership, while shaping the future of Reddit’s AI-powered platform and mentoring high-performing engineers.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, specializing in Indexing and Retrieval systems
- • 3+ years in technical leadership, architecting and scaling distributed systems in production environments
- • Deep expertise in large-scale data platforms, including batch indexing and stream processing (Flink, Airflow, Spark)
- • Proven experience designing and operating large-scale, low-latency retrieval services
- • Expertise in lexical and vector search retrieval technologies, such as Milvus, Vespa, or Elasticsearch
- • Skilled in designing cloud-native architectures and managing containerized workloads using Kubernetes and AWS/GCP
