- • Prepares and files state and local tax returns, including premium taxes, municipal taxes, guaranty fund assessments, use taxes, and property taxes specific to the insurance industry.
- • Assesses the tax and financial statement implications of both actual and proposed business activities to optimize the company’s tax position across multiple jurisdictions.
- • Prepares accurate journal entries, performs account reconciliations, and conducts detailed financial analysis related to tax liabilities and exposures.
- • Coordinates and executes timely tax payments across various state and local taxing authorities to ensure compliance and avoid penalties.
- • Serves as the primary point of contact for tax authorities and other external parties during audits, inquiries, and compliance reviews.
- • Leverages information services, tax databases, and regulatory resources to research complex tax issues and provide authoritative guidance.
- • Participates in process improvement initiatives and technology implementation projects to enhance tax operations and reporting efficiency.
- • Shares subject matter expertise with team members to build organizational knowledge and promote consistent tax practices.
- • Utilizes cloud-based ERP systems, preferably Workday, to manage tax data, automate workflows, and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- • Applies knowledge of Premium Pro or equivalent premium tax software to calculate, validate, and file insurance premium tax returns.
- • Supports the implementation of best practices to strengthen internal controls, improve tax governance, and align tax reporting with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- • Contributes to cross-functional projects involving finance, compliance, and technology teams to streamline tax-related processes.
- • Maintains up-to-date awareness of changing state and local tax laws impacting the insurance sector and advises internal stakeholders accordingly.
- • Ensures all tax filings and documentation meet deadlines and adhere to legal and regulatory requirements.
- • Documents tax positions and supporting analyses for audit readiness and internal review purposes.
