- • We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Senior Test Engineer to assume end-to-end quality ownership for critical product domains and spearhead our automation initiatives. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with our development and product teams, ensuring that features are designed with testability in mind from the outset. Your responsibilities will include building and maintaining reliable automated test coverage, and consistently elevating the quality standards with every product release. This is a dynamic position that requires more than just executing tests; we are looking for a proactive individual who can initiate crucial conversations, propose innovative solutions, and empower the team to accelerate development with unwavering confidence.
- • Your contributions will be vital in writing and enhancing automation scripts, refining our existing Playwright framework, and providing expert guidance to your colleagues on our test strategy and implementation methodologies. You will be instrumental in shaping how we approach quality assurance across the entire development lifecycle. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the reliability and robustness of SEON's platform, directly contributing to our mission of providing best-in-class fraud prevention solutions.
- • As a Senior Test Engineer, you will be entrusted with the comprehensive ownership of quality assurance and the development of test strategies for key components of our platform. This encompasses a wide range of areas, including our robust backend services, intricate API integrations, and user-friendly frontend UI flows. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of automated testing, from designing and implementing comprehensive end-to-end, integration, and API tests to meticulously maintaining them. Our primary tool for this will be Playwright, utilized with TypeScript, though proficiency in Python or JavaScript will be leveraged where necessary to ensure optimal coverage and efficiency.
- • A significant aspect of your role will involve leading automation design decisions. This includes strategically determining what aspects of the system warrant automation, applying the principles of the test pyramid to decide where to implement different types of tests, and establishing best practices to ensure our test suites remain stable, execute rapidly, and are easily maintainable by the wider team. You will also play a crucial part in improving our existing test framework and associated patterns. The focus will be on enhancing reliability, ensuring clarity in test logic, optimizing execution speed, and making it straightforward for other team members to contribute to and leverage the automation infrastructure.
- • Collaboration is key in this role. You will partner closely with developers to embed testability into the very fabric of system design, provide guidance on effective unit and integration testing practices, and conduct thorough reviews of test-related code, including code generated with the assistance of AI tooling. Your expertise will be invaluable in debugging complex failures that may arise across automation scripts, test data configurations, environment setups, or the product's behavior itself. You will then take ownership of driving the necessary fixes and ensuring appropriate follow-up actions are taken to prevent recurrence.
- • Furthermore, you will define and maintain the quality gates within our CI/CD pipelines, specifically within GitHub. This involves establishing clear criteria for how tests are executed, outlining procedures for triaging failures, and precisely defining what constitutes a “release ready” state for our software. Developing practical and effective test data strategies that adequately support both automated and exploratory testing efforts will also be a core responsibility. When required, you will contribute to non-functional testing, focusing on performance and reliability for our critical services.
- • Finally, you will act as a mentor and a source of support for other QA engineers and developers. You will share your knowledge of automation best practices, guide them in their day-to-day quality habits, and foster a culture of continuous improvement in quality assurance across the engineering team. This role is based in our Budapest office, operating on a hybrid schedule, requiring approximately three days per week in the office.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of experience in QA automation, Software Engineer in Test, or Test Engineering, with strong hands-on automation development experience.
- • Strong Playwright experience (preferred) or deep experience in a modern framework like Cypress, Selenium, pytest, JUnit, or similar, plus the ability to ramp quickly into Playwright.
- • Solid coding ability in TypeScript/JavaScript (preferred) and comfort working in Python or another language as needed.
- • Proven experience building and maintaining automation in CI/CD pipelines (GitHub, AWS environments, test runs in pipelines, reporting, flaky test management).
- • Strong understanding of APIs, web services, and event-driven systems, including how to test with mocks, contracts, and controlled test data.
- • Confidence leading technical discussions on test strategy, coverage, tradeoffs, and automation approach, including making and defending recommendations.
- • A quality mindset that looks like engineering: clean, reusable code, thoughtful design patterns, and a focus on long-term maintainability.
- • Comfortable using modern AI tools to speed up work while still applying strong judgment, review, and ownership of the end result.
