📋 Description

• • Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close for SFS (Sotheby’s Financial Services) – a multi-billion-dollar lending portfolio that fuels the global art market. You will prepare and review complex journal entries, reconcile high-value collateral accounts, and ensure every balance ties to source documentation within tight deadlines.
• • Serve as the primary liaison between Accounting, Credit Risk, Legal, and Operations teams to translate loan agreements and auction collateral into accurate GAAP entries. Your ability to decode intricate covenants and performance triggers will directly influence how Sotheby’s books interest income, fee accruals, and impairment reserves.
• • Build and continuously refine scalable processes for a rapidly growing balance sheet. You will map new loan products to the chart of accounts, design control checklists, and automate reconciliations in BlackLine or similar tools—reducing close cycle time while strengthening SOX compliance.
• • Produce insightful management reports that reveal margin trends, vintage performance, and geographic concentration. Senior leadership relies on your dashboards to decide where to expand lending, adjust advance rates, and price risk in real time.
• • Lead the annual impairment analysis for the entire loan book, coordinating with third-party appraisers to validate collateral values ranging from Old Master paintings to rare Ferraris. Your documentation will withstand Big-4 audit scrutiny and rating-agency reviews.
• • Partner with FP&A to model interest-rate scenarios and stress-test liquidity under various auction-sale outcomes. Your forecasts help Treasury optimize funding sources and maintain covenant headroom on the corporate credit facility.
• • Drive system enhancements by translating user requirements into UAT scripts for Workday Finance and Salesforce. You will validate data migration, write SQL queries for exception testing, and train global users on new workflows.
• • Mentor junior analysts and interns, creating a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning. You will host monthly lunch-and-learns on topics such as ASC 310-30 (loans acquired with deteriorated credit quality) and CECL methodology.
• • Represent Sotheby’s at cross-functional sustainability initiatives, quantifying the carbon impact of transporting high-value assets and embedding ESG metrics into lender reporting packages.
• • Champion diversity and inclusion by participating in recruiting events for historically under-represented groups and ensuring equitable access to stretch assignments across the accounting team.
• • Stay ahead of regulatory change—whether it’s FASB’s next CECL tweak, SEC climate disclosures, or international tax reform—and translate technical pronouncements into actionable policies for a 24/7 global operation.
