Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Join the International Rescue Committee’s Technical Excellence team as a Software Developer Analyst and help turn data into life-saving decisions for people affected by conflict and disaster. You will sit at the heart of METAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Technology, Accountability & Learning) and build the digital backbone that powers IRC’s global Crisis Response, Recovery and Development (CRRD) programs.
  • • Own the end-to-end design, development, and continuous improvement of PowerApps and Power Automate solutions that collect, validate, and surface program data for more than 40 country offices and 29 U.S. cities. Your code will be used by field teams to track education attendance in refugee camps, monitor economic-wellbeing grants in fragile states, and visualize health outcomes in real time.
  • • Translate complex business requirements—from sector experts in Education, Health, Governance, Violence Prevention, and Economic Wellbeing—into scalable, secure, and user-friendly applications. You will write clean, maintainable code, produce system diagrams, and author implementation manuals that enable non-technical colleagues to deploy and extend your solutions independently.
  • • Establish and enforce data-quality guardrails, automated validation rules, and security policies that protect the privacy of crisis-affected populations and keep IRC compliant with GDPR, donor regulations, and internal safeguarding standards. You will champion a “privacy-by-design” mindset across every sprint.
  • • Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 technical support, acting as the escalation point for help-desk tickets that reach beyond first-line troubleshooting. You will triage, reproduce, and resolve defects, route complex issues to engineering or infrastructure teams, and maintain a knowledge base that reduces future ticket volume.
  • • Collaborate closely with the Program Data Systems Product Manager, QA Analyst, Data Engineers, and Azure administrators to integrate PowerApps with Databricks, Azure SQL, Dataverse, and third-party APIs. You will participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retros to ensure releases are on time and bug-free.
  • • Lead hyper-care periods during pilot rollouts—traveling virtually or in person to Nairobi, Amman, or other hubs—to provide on-the-ground configuration, training, and rapid iteration based on user feedback. Your presence will de-risk launches and accelerate adoption.
  • • Contribute to the global technology roadmap by researching emerging Microsoft-stack features, evaluating their humanitarian applicability, and presenting findings in internal tech talks. Your thought leadership will keep IRC at the cutting edge of digital program delivery.
  • • Mentor junior developers and share best practices in secure coding, DevOps, and agile delivery. You will review pull requests, conduct brown-bag sessions, and help grow a culture of continuous learning within METAL and across the wider organization.
  • • Work in a hybrid model: collaborate in IRC’s central London office one day per week and enjoy focused remote work the rest of the week. You will join a diverse, values-driven team that celebrates ingenuity, fortitude, and optimism in pursuit of a better future for millions.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Minimum 5 years of experience developing data platforms for programs, with at least 3 years building, deploying, and supporting PowerApps and Power Automate at scale
  • • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Azure services (Azure SQL, Databricks, Dataverse connectors, RESTful APIs) and a track record of integrating them into secure, performant solutions
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
  • • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • • Nice-to-have: Microsoft Power Platform Developer certification, prior experience in public-sector or M&E technology, and familiarity with humanitarian or development program cycles

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive UK salary range of ÂŁ45,954–£53,614, calibrated to experience and internal equity
  • • Flexible hybrid working—only one required office day per week—with core hours that respect work-life balance
  • • 25 days annual leave plus UK public holidays, additional paid leave for humanitarian emergencies, and generous parental leave policies designed to close the gender leadership gap
  • • Comprehensive private medical insurance, life assurance, and access to an employee assistance program supporting mental health and wellbeing
  • • Annual professional-development budget and paid study leave to pursue Microsoft certifications, attend humanitarian tech conferences, or complete advanced coursework
