- • Design and evolve agent harnesses that power Decagon’s conversational AI experiences across voice, chat, email, and SMS.
- • Build core runtime systems including AOP execution and multi-model orchestration for router/planner/supervisor workflows.
- • Develop control-plane logic for routing, planning, and tool invocation with strong safety and reliability guarantees.
- • Optimize agent systems for low-latency performance in real-time environments such as voice interactions and high-throughput chat.
- • Analyze real-world agent failures and use data-driven insights to drive iterative improvements in reliability and capability.
- • Build and operate online experimentation platforms (A/B testing) and contribute to offline evaluation frameworks for agent performance.
- • Improve observability, testing, and simulation systems to ensure safe, measurable, and scalable progress in production.
- • Contribute to voice-specific systems including transcription pipelines, turn-taking logic, and latency reduction.
- • Collaborate closely with Research, Infrastructure, and Product teams to ship improvements safely and at scale.
- • Continuously adapt orchestration systems as foundational LLM capabilities evolve and new model architectures emerge.
- • Own end-to-end lifecycle of distributed systems—from initial design and prototyping through production deployment and long-term iteration.
- • Diagnose complex production issues across distributed, high-concurrency agent execution environments.
- • Implement feedback loops that connect real-world user interactions with system-level improvements in agent behavior.
- • Ensure production correctness by enforcing guardrails, safety constraints, and fail-safes across all agent interactions.
- • Work in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment with rapid iteration cycles and tight feedback loops between experimentation and deployment.
- • Balance innovation with operational rigor, prioritizing system reliability, scalability, and safety over feature velocity alone.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong experience building distributed systems or backend platforms in production environments
- • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with rapid iteration cycles
- • Experience owning systems end-to-end, from design through production and iteration
- • Familiarity with experimentation, evaluation, or data-driven product improvement loops
- • A track record of improving system reliability, performance, and observability
- • Ability to debug complex systems and identify root causes of failures
