Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design and build internal platform tools, automation, and tooling that enable every Render engineer to ship code quickly and safely.
- • Improve the speed and reliability of early feedback loops in the development process by optimizing build systems, dependency management, caching, and monorepo ergonomics.
- • Accelerate CI/CD pipelines by reducing build, test, and deploy times while maintaining safe, reversible paths to production.
- • Enhance test infrastructure through parallelization, smart test selection, flaky-test detection, and creating local/preview environments using the same primitives as customer-facing systems.
- • Design and implement tools to support concurrent agent execution, ensuring test feedback is fast enough to operate within an agent’s loop without compounding delays.
- • Equip agents with accurate context—including codebase conventions, service ownership, recent changes, and environment state—to increase the likelihood of successful first attempts.
- • Simplify and standardize repetitive engineering workflows by automating toil and paving over manual steps that slow down velocity.
- • Instrument the engineering organization with meaningful metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time for changes, change failure rate, and time to restore, then translate insights into actionable improvements.
- • Build and participate in an on-call rotation to own and maintain critical internal systems that support developer velocity.
- • Collaborate across the entire engineering organization to identify friction points in the development lifecycle and remove them measurably.
- • Work with Go as the primary language, leveraging strong software engineering fundamentals to ship, maintain, and debug production-grade systems.
- • Apply infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform to manage and automate platform resources.
- • Operate within Kubernetes or similar container orchestration environments to support scalable, reliable internal tooling.
- • Use data-driven approaches to measure the impact of changes, ensuring improvements are validated by observable outcomes rather than assumptions.
- • Empathize deeply with engineers, prioritizing the resolution of developer pain points through elegant, sustainable solutions.
- • Contribute to a culture of continuous feedback, mutual trust, and respectful debate to improve both individual and team performance.
- • Maintain security-minded practices, particularly around supply chain integrity and the end-to-end path from commit to deploy.
- • Stay informed on AI’s role in engineering workflows, applying it as an accelerant where appropriate while preserving essential human context.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience building and operating developer-facing tooling, CI/CD systems, or internal platforms that other engineers depend on daily.
- • Strong software engineering fundamentals with a proven track record of shipping, maintaining, and debugging production systems.
- • Proficiency in Go or a strong willingness to ramp quickly in Go, Render’s primary language.
- • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms.
- • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
- • A bias toward measurement: you instrument what you build and use data to validate improvements.
🏖️ Benefits
- • 4 weeks of paid vacation.
- • 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents, with support for return-to-work planning.
- • 100% employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent.
- • Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, therapy, and hobbies.
- • Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
- • Home office stipend for remote employees.
