Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As a Software Engineer on the Fraud & Identity team at Ramp, you will play a critical role in protecting the financial integrity of over 50,000 businesses by building systems that detect, prevent, and respond to fraud and identity-based threats in real time. Your work will directly impact how companies safeguard billions in annualized spend, ensuring secure money movement and trusted user access across Ramp’s platform.
- • You will design and evolve backend services that power fraud detection across account access and money movement surfaces, developing enforcement tooling that enables rapid, safe responses such as payment freezes, identity locks, and business-level containment actions. This includes improving protections against account takeover through risk-based step-up authentication, behavioral monitoring, and dynamic friction controls that adapt to emerging threats.
- • You will operate and enhance high-signal observability systems, including metrics, dashboards, alerting, and incident playbooks, ensuring the team can detect, investigate, and respond to fraud campaigns with speed and precision. Your work will be grounded in data-driven decisioning, leveraging rules engines, scoring models, and anomaly detection to improve accuracy and reduce false positives.
- • Collaborating closely with UIM/Identity, Fraud Ops, Risk Strategy, Security, Product, and Data teams, you will help strengthen foundational identity primitives — including roles, permissions, identity state, and authentication flows — to support secure, scalable access control across the platform.
- • You will own end-to-end delivery of features: from technical design and implementation to rollout strategy and post-launch iteration based on outcome metrics such as loss reduction, attack containment, and user experience impact. This role offers the opportunity to build high-leverage systems where engineering excellence directly translates to measurable business and security outcomes.
- • By joining Ramp, you will work alongside a team of high-agency builders who prioritize slope over intercept, where your contributions shape not only technical systems but also the trust and safety of the financial infrastructure used by thousands of growing companies. You’ll gain deep expertise in fraud prevention, identity management, and risk engineering while contributing to a mission-critical product that helps businesses save money and grow faster.
🎯 Requirements
- • 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend engineering fundamentals in APIs, distributed systems, data modeling, and system reliability.
- • Experience building data-informed detection or decisioning systems (e.g., rules engines, scoring mechanisms, anomaly detection) or a strong demonstrated interest in developing expertise in this domain.
- • Proven ability to operate and improve production systems through effective debugging, incident response, and on-call excellence via instrumentation and automation.
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100% coverage for medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees, with partial coverage for dependents, plus access to One Medical annual membership.
- • 401(k) plan with employer match, flexible PTO, fertility HRA (up to $10,000/year), parental leave, and pet insurance.
- • Unlimited AI token usage, health and wellness stipend, centralized home-office equipment budget, in-office perks (lunch, snacks, drinks), intra-office travel budget, and relocation support to NYC or SF as needed.
