As a Software Engineer II (Full-Stack, Backend-leaning), you will be instrumental in building and scaling the core systems that power our revolutionary super app for car and home ownership.
• You will dive deep into developing sophisticated automation systems designed to manage complex insurance servicing tasks from end-to-end. This includes handling policy endorsements, cancellations, document uploads, and reinstatements, all while ensuring users maintain optimal coverage and reducing policy cancellations and improving renewal rates.
• Our development cycles are rapid and efficient, with a focus on shipping new automations within an average of 1–2 weeks. This fast-paced environment allows you to see your work deployed quickly and observe its direct effect on user experience and business metrics.
• A significant part of your role will involve composing robust backend business logic. You will be responsible for creating the intelligence that drives our automation, meticulously respecting the intricate rules and regulations of insurance carriers.
• You will design and implement sophisticated backend pipelines responsible for synchronizing customer policy data, delivering critical, timely alerts to users, and powering seamless re-shopping experiences that ensure our customers always have the best value.
• We are also focused on optimizing and scaling our internal tools, such as our in-house equivalent of DocuSign for servicing. The goal is to minimize agent intervention to near-zero, thereby increasing efficiency and improving the customer journey.
• Collaboration is key. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering operations teams to proactively identify and address potential churn drivers, ultimately enhancing customer retention and satisfaction.
• Operating within a remote-first, global team, you will master asynchronous communication and collaboration techniques. While meetings are minimized, strong collaboration is maintained through tools like Asana and Slack, fostering a connected and productive environment across different time zones.
• You will play a crucial role in the continuous improvement of our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. This includes actively participating in the refactoring of major parts of our codebase, simplifying legacy systems, rebuilding core workflows, and establishing a scalable foundation for the next three years of platform growth.
• Our tech stack is modern and dynamic, featuring TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, and Expo for frontend and backend development. We utilize GraphQL for our API, and our data infrastructure includes Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, and Redis. On the infrastructure side, we leverage AWS, with containerized services on ECS/EKS and asynchronous processing on Lambda. You will have the opportunity to work with and contribute to this cutting-edge technology stack.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of full-stack engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on building production-grade software and ideally experience with large-scale distributed systems in a fast-growing consumer-facing environment.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and systems design principles, which are valued more highly than specific prior experience with our exact tech stack.
• Demonstrated ability to tackle ambiguous problems, break them down into actionable code, and iterate rapidly to deliver solutions.
• Proven track record of taking ownership of end-to-end outcomes and a commitment to continuously improving the systems you build.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort working asynchronously within a global, remote team.
