• As a Software Engineer II (Full-Stack, Backend-leaning), you will be instrumental in building and enhancing sophisticated automation systems designed to manage complex insurance servicing tasks. This includes end-to-end processes such as policy endorsements, cancellations, document uploads, and reinstatements. Your work will directly contribute to reducing policy cancellations, improving renewal rates, and ensuring our users consistently receive the best possible coverage, thereby playing a critical role in customer retention and satisfaction.
• You will operate within fast-paced sprint cycles, with an average shipping time of new automations within 1–2 weeks. This rapid development cadence allows for quick feedback loops and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for composing robust backend business logic that effectively drives these automations, all while meticulously respecting the intricate rules and regulations of various insurance carriers.
• The role involves designing and implementing efficient backend pipelines responsible for synchronizing customer policy data, delivering timely and critical alerts to users, and powering seamless re-shopping experiences. Furthermore, you will optimize and scale our internal tools, akin to an in-house DocuSign for servicing, with the ambitious goal of reducing agent intervention to a minimal level, thereby increasing operational efficiency and scalability.
• Collaboration is key at Jerry.ai. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering operations teams to proactively identify and address potential customer churn, ultimately enhancing customer retention strategies. Our engineering team operates as a remote-first, global unit, collaborating asynchronously across North America and Asia. Communication and context sharing are facilitated through tools like Asana and Slack, with regular syncs to ensure alignment and strong team cohesion. We prioritize minimal meetings to maximize focused development time.
• You will continuously contribute to the improvement of our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. Our tech stack includes TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, Expo for frontend and backend development; GraphQL for our API; Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, and Redis for data storage; and AWS, microservices, containerized services on ECS/EKS, and asynchronous processing on Lambda for infrastructure. As our business has evolved, we are undertaking a significant refactoring effort to simplify legacy systems, rebuild core functionalities, and establish a scalable foundation for the next three years of platform growth. Your contributions will be vital in building this next-generation architecture.

🎯 Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of full-stack engineering experience, with a proven track record of building production-grade software, ideally including experience with large-scale distributed systems for fast-growing consumer-facing applications.
• Strong foundational knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and systems design, which are prioritized over specific experience with our exact tech stack.
• Demonstrated ability to solve ambiguous problems by breaking them down into actionable code and iterating quickly.
• A proactive approach to ownership, taking responsibility for end-to-end outcomes and continuously seeking to improve the systems you build.
• Comfort and proficiency in working asynchronously with a global team, supported by excellent communication skills.
