📋 Description

• Join Jerry.ai as a Software Engineer II (Full Stack, Backend-leaning) and play a pivotal role in revolutionizing car ownership through our AI-powered super app. You will be an integral part of the Core Marketplace Automation Team, focusing on building sophisticated automation systems that empower our users with seamless self-service capabilities, ensuring they remain insured and experience the smoothest journey possible.
• This is a unique opportunity to contribute to software that directly impacts millions of users daily, automate intricate business processes, and actively shape the future of the insurance technology landscape. Your work will be at the forefront of innovation in a rapidly growing, profitable, and user-centric company aiming to scale from 5 million to 50 million users.
• As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for developing automation systems that handle complex, end-to-end insurance servicing tasks. This includes, but is not limited to, policy endorsements, cancellations, document uploads, and reinstatements. Your efforts will directly contribute to reducing policy cancellations, improving renewal rates, and ensuring our users consistently have the best possible coverage.
• You will thrive in a fast-paced environment with rapid sprint cycles, where new automations are typically shipped within 1-2 weeks on average. This requires composing robust backend business logic that effectively drives automation while meticulously respecting the complex rules and regulations of various insurance carriers.
• A significant part of your role will involve designing and implementing efficient backend pipelines. These pipelines will be crucial for syncing customer policy data, delivering timely and relevant alerts to users, and powering seamless re-shopping experiences, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and retention.
• You will also focus on optimizing and scaling our internal tools, conceptualized as an in-house solution akin to DocuSign for servicing. The goal is to minimize agent intervention to near-zero, thereby increasing operational efficiency and scalability.
• Collaboration is key. You will work closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering operations teams to proactively anticipate customer churn and implement strategies to improve customer retention. This cross-functional synergy ensures a holistic approach to product development and user experience.
• Embrace asynchronous work across different time zones. While minimizing meetings, we emphasize strong collaboration through tools like Asana and Slack, ensuring effective communication and project progression regardless of geographical location.
• Continuously contribute to the improvement of our backend systems, APIs, and microservice architecture. This involves identifying areas for enhancement, implementing best practices, and ensuring the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of our core infrastructure.
• The ideal candidate possesses strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and systems design. While specific language or framework experience is less critical than fundamental understanding, proficiency in TypeScript, Nest.js, Next.js, React, React Native, Expo, GraphQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, Clickhouse, Redis, AWS, microservices, and containerized services on ECS/EKS is beneficial.
• You are a natural problem-solver who enjoys tackling ambiguous challenges, breaking them down into actionable code, and iterating quickly to find effective solutions.
• You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership, taking responsibility for end-to-end outcomes and continuously striving to improve the systems you build.
• You are comfortable working asynchronously across teams and time zones, possessing excellent communication skills that facilitate clear and concise interactions.

🎯 Requirements

• At least 2 years of full-stack engineering experience building production-grade software, with a preference for prior experience in large-scale distributed systems for a fast-growing consumer-facing software company.
• Strong foundational knowledge in data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
• Proven ability to tackle ambiguous problems, break them down into actionable code, and iterate quickly.
• Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end outcomes and a commitment to continuous system improvement.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with comfort working asynchronously across teams and time zones.
