- • Architect, build, and maintain high-throughput, low-latency microservices that power our intelligent borrowing, savings, and budgeting platform, serving millions of members who rely on us for affordable credit.
- • Partner with product managers, UX designers, data scientists, and risk analysts to translate complex business goals into elegant technical solutions that reduce financial stress for underserved communities.
- • Drive technical excellence by leading design reviews, establishing coding standards, and mentoring junior engineers through pair programming, code reviews, and brown-bag sessions.
- • Champion cloud-native best practices on AWS—leveraging Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines—to achieve 99.9 % uptime and sub-second response times while keeping infrastructure costs predictable.
- • Instrument services with comprehensive observability (metrics, logs, traces) and implement automated alerting so the team detects and resolves issues before members feel them.
- • Evaluate emerging fintech technologies—such as real-time decision engines, open-banking APIs, and AI-driven fraud detection—and prototype solutions that give Oportun a competitive edge.
- • Optimize data pipelines that process billions of transactional events, ensuring accurate risk scoring and personalized financial insights that help members save an average of $1,800 annually.
- • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to embed SOC-2, PCI-DSS, and CDFI standards into every layer of the stack, protecting sensitive member data and maintaining regulatory trust.
- • Lead cross-functional “big bet” initiatives—spanning multiple squads and quarters—that expand our product suite into new markets and credit verticals, directly impacting Oportun’s $19.7 billion in lifetime originations.
- • Foster an inclusive engineering culture by participating in employee resource groups, sponsoring hackathons, and sharing diverse perspectives that strengthen our ability to serve a multicultural member base.
- • Continuously refactor legacy monoliths into resilient, event-driven architectures, reducing time-to-market for new features from months to days and unlocking rapid experimentation.
- • Present technical roadmaps and post-mortems to executive leadership, translating engineering trade-offs into business impact and securing buy-in for strategic investments.
- • Contribute to open-source projects and internal libraries that accelerate development velocity across the organization, reinforcing Oportun’s reputation as a technology innovator in responsible lending.
