Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design and build the foundational platform layer that enables every engineering pod to ship reliable, audit-ready AI agents for finance automation, focusing on reconciliation, journal entries, contract parsing, revenue recognition, and month-end close.
- • Create sub-ledger primitives that are flexible enough to model any accounting workflow while enforcing rigid audit trails as an inherent system property, not an afterthought.
- • Architect and implement a close orchestration layer that accommodates 1,000+ unique close calendars while ensuring auditors can trust the system’s outputs without manual verification.
- • Encode auditability, observability, and guardrails directly into the agent platform so that each pod can ship production-ready agents in days, not months, without re-deriving core compliance logic.
- • Write production-grade code for the most complex reconciliation and transactional logic, including edge cases in multi-entity prepaid amortization, accruals, and intercompany eliminations.
- • Operate fluently with AI agent tooling (Claude, Cursor, internal tooling) as a second cortex — using AI to accelerate development, testing, and debugging of financial workflows.
- • Ship full-stack solutions when required, including backend services in Python, frontend interfaces in TypeScript, and LLM pipeline integrations — with product judgment driving technical decisions.
- • Collaborate directly with finance teams and controllers to observe accounting workflows in real time, translating nuanced manual processes into automated, scalable systems.
- • Own architectural decisions that must remain viable and secure for 3–5 years, ensuring systems built in 2026 do not create technical debt or compliance risks in 2029.
- • Raise the ceiling for every engineering pod by establishing patterns, abstractions, and standards that multiply team velocity without increasing coordination overhead.
- • Solve problems end-to-end across the entire stack: from LLM prompts and eval frameworks to infrastructure, data pipelines, and user-facing UX components.
- • Prioritize correctness over speed; when systems break, trace to root cause and implement permanent fixes, not workarounds — especially in regulated financial contexts.
- • Maintain hands-on coding as a Staff Engineer; leadership is defined by depth of impact, not managerial span — you write the trickiest code yourself.
- • Foster a culture of engineering excellence in non-deterministic, regulated environments by making best practices teachable and repeatable for new engineers.
- • Work in-person in New York City; the team’s velocity and trust compound through daily co-location with finance stakeholders and engineering peers.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep specialization in distributed systems, ledger/transactional systems, data infrastructure, integration platforms, or AI/agent platforms.
- • Strong backend expertise in a modern language such as Python, Go, Java, or Rust; proficiency in Python required, with ability to ship TypeScript when needed.
- • Proven track record of building load-bearing systems that multiple teams depend on, with architectural decisions that compounded value over multiple years.
- • Experience working at an early-stage startup (pre-seed through Series B).
🏖️ Benefits
- • Top-of-market compensation benchmarked to top NYC startups.
- • Meaningful early-stage equity in a company already shipping to enterprise customers.
- • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k) with match; flexible PTO; paid sick leave.
- • Corporate card for meals, stocked office, and commuter benefits.
