📋 Description

• As Engineering Director for Compiler & Architecture at Olix USA Inc., you will lead a rapidly scaling organization of 24 individual contributors and 4 managers responsible for advancing the Optical Tensor Processing Unit (OTPU) architecture and compiler stack, directly enabling breakthrough performance and energy efficiency in AI hardware that addresses the growing infrastructure gap in global AI compute demand.
• You will define the technical vision and long-term strategy for compiler development (frontend, middle-end, backend) and cycle-accurate performance modeling, ensuring alignment with business goals and accountability for delivering measurable performance gains that translate into real-world customer value and competitive advantage.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities include building and leading a high-performing engineering organization by hiring senior talent, developing engineering managers who own customer outcomes, and establishing technical excellence through clear architectural principles, review cadences, and quality standards that balance innovation with operational rigor.
• You will shape the technical direction for ML inference on Olix hardware by driving hardware-software co-design with ASIC and FPGA teams, making strategic trade-offs on where to invest in compiler optimizations, architecture enhancements, and performance modeling to maximize throughput, latency, and power efficiency for large-scale AI workloads.
• You will translate long-term business objectives into clear, actionable priorities, ensuring the team focuses on high-impact work while deprioritizing or shutting down initiatives that do not serve customer or business outcomes, fostering a culture of focus and disciplined execution.
• You will cultivate a healthy, high-performance culture that empowers engineers and managers to do their best work by coaching, developing, and enabling teams to take ownership of reliability, innovation, and speed, creating an environment where technical excellence and people growth are equally valued.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven engineering leadership experience delivering complex, company-level technical initiatives in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with direct accountability for senior managers and multi-team execution.
• Demonstrated expertise in scaling engineering organizations, including org design, hiring senior technical talent, and developing high-impact engineering managers who drive ownership and outcomes.
• Deep technical background in compilers and architectures for distributed ML inference, with hands-on experience in LLVM, MLIR, Shardy, XLA/OpenXLA, and SystemC for performance modeling and optimization.
• Exceptional communication and recruitment skills, with a track record of articulating compelling technical visions to attract and close top-tier engineering talent globally.
• Strong people leadership abilities, including coaching, developing, and empowering engineers and managers to perform at their best while fostering psychological safety, growth, and technical excellence.
