📋 Description

• Lead a team of software engineers responsible for designing, building, and maintaining Sift’s core data infrastructure, including ingestion pipelines, storage systems, processing engines, APIs, and documentation for data interaction.
• Manage end-to-end delivery of high-performance data platforms that operate flawlessly across cloud, on-prem, and air-gapped environments to support mission-critical systems in aerospace, defense, autonomous vehicles, and energy.
• Collaborate directly with Product and Go-To-Market teams to define and prioritize technical roadmaps aligned with customer needs and company strategy.
• Actively contribute to the codebase by architecting and implementing high-impact features, resolving critical technical challenges, and ensuring system reliability at scale.
• Establish and refine engineering processes including agile rituals, code review standards, and deployment practices, while integrating AI tools to accelerate development velocity and improve code quality.
• Mentor and develop engineers by providing continuous feedback, career guidance, and growth opportunities to foster a high-performing, resilient team culture.
• Own the quality and performance of data systems that serve demanding use cases requiring low-latency queries, high-throughput streaming, and real-time analytics for physical systems.
• Ensure data infrastructure meets stringent operational requirements for customers in regulated industries, including compliance with ITAR and EAR regulations.
• Evaluate and integrate new data technologies such as Flink, Kafka, Redpanda, DuckDB, Timescale, Druid, and Pinot to enhance scalability, efficiency, and functionality of the platform.
• Work closely with frontend teams to support the development of customer-facing dashboards using React, TypeScript, D3.js, and WebGL for intuitive data exploration and visualization.
• Promote a culture of technical excellence by raising the bar for system design, observability, testing, and documentation across all data engineering initiatives.
• Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments.
• Participate in weekly in-person collaboration at the Marina Del Rey office (Mondays and Thursdays) and join company-wide retreats every two months to align with hardware-focused customers and engineering peers.
• Contribute to hiring initiatives by identifying, interviewing, and onboarding top-tier engineering talent with backgrounds in distributed systems, real-time data, and physical system domains.
• Maintain deep technical involvement in the stack, including Go, Rust, and Python, while ensuring seamless integration between data pipelines and application layers.
• Champion the use of data exploration tools like Grafana and Jupyter Notebooks to enable engineers and customers to derive actionable insights from telemetry streams.
• Support the evolution of Sift’s platform during its early growth stage, where architectural decisions have long-term impact on the trajectory of the product and company.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering with 2+ years in a people management role
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field
• Strong experience with distributed systems and web applications using Go, Rust, or Python
• Experience with stream processing technologies such as Apache Kafka, Flink, or Beam
• Familiarity with specialized time-series or analytical databases like PostgreSQL, Druid, Pinot, or Timescale
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams through ambiguity and act as a force multiplier for technical talent
