  • • As a Solution Architect specializing in Inventory & Merchandising at DICK’S Sporting Goods, you will be at the forefront of transforming the company's retail operations. This pivotal role involves leading the design and architecture of complex, strategically vital technology solutions that underpin the company's inventory management and merchandising functions. You will be instrumental in evolving DICK'S from a leading sports retailer into a premier sports company by building an agile, data-driven inventory ecosystem.
  • • Your primary responsibility will be to architect end-to-end technology solutions that enhance inventory visibility, enable smarter buying decisions, and support overarching enterprise goals. This encompasses a broad spectrum of systems, including those related to merchandising, supply chain, store operations, omnichannel fulfillment, and enterprise data platforms. You will champion the adoption of modern, cloud-native solutions, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
  • • You will act as a key liaison, collaborating closely with business stakeholders, product management, domain architects, platform engineers, and product teams. This cross-functional collaboration is essential for translating strategic inventory and merchandising goals into tangible technology capabilities and ensuring alignment across the organization.
  • • A significant aspect of this role involves driving technical designs, leveraging established reference architecture patterns, and maturing cross-domain shared services. You will ensure all designs adhere to foundational technology standards, security protocols, and reliability requirements, maintaining enterprise consistency and maximizing value delivery.
  • • You will be expected to stay abreast of emerging technical trends, patterns, and solutions within the retail, inventory management, merchandising, supply chain, and enterprise data domains. This expertise will be leveraged to influence both business and technical teams, advocating for innovative approaches and the adoption of cutting-edge solutions.
  • • The role requires hands-on involvement in developing solution spikes and proofs-of-concept (POCs) to validate architectural designs and advance DICK'S enterprise technology capabilities. This practical application of architectural principles ensures that proposed solutions are feasible and effective.
  • • You will be responsible for producing and maintaining critical architectural artifacts, including current and transitional systems diagrams, technology roadmaps, and assessments of business and systems impacts. These documents are crucial for communicating design options, identifying risks, and outlining feasibility for stakeholders.
  • • A core function is to guide engineering teams in developing robust integration and data solutions across a complex, multi-system landscape. This involves organizing and leading technical design discussions, ensuring that solutions are well-integrated and performant.
  • • You will translate domain and application roadmaps into actionable steps for engineering leaders, facilitating the efficient execution of strategic initiatives. Keeping technical leadership informed about reviews, risks, and domain direction is also a key responsibility.
  • • Mentoring and guiding engineers in solution architecture best practices, including technology evaluations, compliance checks, cross-team collaboration, and alignment with platform architecture, will be integral to your role. Sharing lessons learned and updating system architecture roadmaps based on evolving technologies and vendor solutions will contribute to continuous improvement.
  • • The position demands a deep understanding of Service-Oriented and Event-Driven Architectures, Azure Cloud Technologies, enterprise data platforms, and various retail-specific systems such as merchandise planning, ERP, supply chain management, and omnichannel fulfillment platforms.
  • • You will play a crucial role in refactoring monolithic applications into modern, cloud-native architectures, driving the modernization of DICK'S technology stack.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the future of retail technology, contributing directly to the company's strategic vision of becoming the best sports company in the world by ensuring the right product is delivered to the right place at the right time, every time.
