📋 Description
- • Perform charge capture, entry, and approval functions for inpatient cardiology services, ensuring accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding for patient billing.
- • Conduct daily and monthly reconciliation of charge data to identify and correct missing, duplicate, or erroneous charges, particularly for implants and supply-related services.
- • Review clinical documentation to validate coding accuracy and perform root cause analysis on denial-related charge issues in collaboration with Nurse Auditors and revenue integrity teams.
- • Provide feedback and education to clinical providers and ancillary departments on proper documentation practices and appropriate code selection to improve charge capture compliance.
- • Monitor and audit departmental charge processes to ensure adherence to Trinity Health policies, coding guidelines, and regulatory standards including OCE/CCI edits and DNFB protocols.
- • Utilize electronic medical record systems (Epic preferred) to automate charge triggers, investigate technical integration errors, and resolve discrepancies in charge generation.
- • Analyze operational data to generate reports that illustrate trends in charge capture performance, recommend process improvements, and support leadership decision-making for revenue integrity.
- • Coordinate with key stakeholders on system upgrades and process changes to maintain accuracy in charge capture workflows and minimize revenue leakage.
- • Maintain documentation of charge capture procedures and audit trails to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local healthcare regulations and Trinity Health’s Code of Conduct.
- • Support revenue cycle front-end and back-end functions by identifying errors related to patient registration, provider payment enrollment, and prebill edits that impact charge accuracy.
- • Deliver “at-elbow” support to cardiology departments to ensure real-time correction of documentation and coding deficiencies during daily operations.
- • Apply knowledge of Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) and Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) reimbursement structures to evaluate charge appropriateness and billing compliance.
- • Collaborate with Revenue Integrity colleagues to identify opportunities for process optimization, reduce denials, and improve overall financial performance in cardiology services.

- • Maintain confidentiality and data security in handling sensitive patient and financial information in accordance with compliance and privacy standards.
🎯 Requirements
- • High school diploma or GED
- • Minimum three (3) years of relevant coding and charge control experience in a hospital or physician practice environment
- • Experience with inpatient cardiology coding and revenue integrity
- • Strong working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, APC, OPPS, OCE/CCI edits, and DNFB processes
- • Experience with Epic EMR system and charge capture automation
- • Knowledge of clinical billing, charge master maintenance, and revenue cycle operations
