đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Sr. Automation Engineer for Powertrain at Lucid Motors, you will be at the forefront of revolutionizing luxury electric vehicle production. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that new and existing control systems for our cutting-edge Powertrain manufacturing lines meet stringent throughput, safety, and quality requirements. You will also be instrumental in designing and developing continuous improvement projects that align with Lucid's ambitious goals and evolving needs.
  • • You will collaborate closely with layout engineering teams to meticulously prepare and optimize Powertrain line layouts, ensuring efficient workflow and maximum productivity. This involves a deep understanding of how equipment integrates into the overall production flow.
  • • Your expertise will be crucial in working with a wide array of advanced manufacturing equipment, including robotics, end-of-arm tooling, pick-and-place automation, various position sensors, sophisticated material handling systems, precise fluid dispensing units, advanced vision systems for quality inspection, and robust conveyor and laser cleaning/welding systems.
  • • A key aspect of your role will be to develop and enforce company-level, factory-level, and line/machine-level controls standards and specifications. These standards will guide both our internal equipment development teams and external partners, ensuring consistency and high performance across all automated systems.
  • • You will architect and implement data management and tracking communication network architectures. This involves interfacing with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration for product, process, and quality traceability control, which is paramount in the automotive industry.
  • • You will be responsible for architecting, writing, and debugging PLC ladder logic with a strong emphasis on creating code that is organized, structured, well-documented, maintainable, and reusable. This PLC code will need to interact seamlessly with various subsystems such as conveyors, robots, the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView applications, machine vision systems, and other third-party equipment.
  • • Implementing control-reliable safety systems compliant with ANSI/RIA 15.06/OSHA standards will be a critical function. These systems are essential for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • • You will design and generate aesthetically simple yet highly functional Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens for complex machinery. These interfaces must provide sufficient feedback for effective troubleshooting and operation by production and maintenance teams.
  • • You will enforce the application of Lucid Motors' established standards and manage external integrators throughout the specification, design review, and design approval processes, ensuring adherence to our high-quality benchmarks.
  • • Establishing comprehensive test plans and diligently controlling test plan execution at vendor sites and Lucid Motors' facilities during installation and buy-off phases is vital to guarantee system readiness.
  • • You will play a key role in training Maintenance and Production teams to effectively support and troubleshoot automated equipment after its deployment into the production environment.
  • • You will design and implement machine interactions with the plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to communicate critical information such as product acceptability, machine status, and process variables, enabling real-time monitoring and control.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve debugging and optimizing automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve overall equipment availability, and enhance yield, directly contributing to production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • • You will contribute to the continuous improvement of manufacturing processes by identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, and quality enhancements, driving innovation within the Powertrain division.
  • • This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment. You will be a key contributor to Lucid's mission of delivering exceptional electric vehicles.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related field; a combination of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • • 5+ years of experience in an Automation Engineering role, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • • Advanced proficiency in programming industrial equipment, including PLCs (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens) and Safety PLCs.
  • • In-depth knowledge of safety standards, specifically ANSI/RIA 15.06 and OSHA regulations.
  • • Demonstrated excellence in PLC programming with a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization, including the ability to design fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • • Life insurance and disability insurance coverage.
  • • Generous paid time off (vacation).
  • • 401k retirement savings plan.
  • • Potential eligibility for Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to program rules and performance factors.
