📋 Description

• Architect and own the end-to-end data platform that fuels Chamber’s mission to save lives through smarter cardiovascular care. You will design resilient, HIPAA-compliant pipelines that ingest, cleanse, and enrich millions of clinical, claims, and device data points daily, turning raw records into the real-time intelligence cardiologists rely on to intervene before a crisis occurs.
• Build and continuously evolve scalable ETL/ELT workflows using Python, SQL, and modern orchestration tools (Airflow/Prefect/Dagster) that run flawlessly in AWS. Your code will process messy HL7 feeds, FHIR bundles, 837/834 claims, and streaming telemetry, surfacing clean, analytics-ready tables in Snowflake or BigQuery within minutes of arrival.
• Model complex cardiac datasets—including ejection fractions, lab trends, medication histories, and social determinants—into intuitive star schemas and data marts that power both internal dashboards and external clinician-facing products. Every model you ship directly influences risk scores that prioritize which patient receives a life-saving call today.
• Harden security and compliance at every layer: encryption in transit & at rest, role-based access controls, audit logging, and automated drift detection. You will partner with our Security & Compliance lead to maintain HITRUST certification and pass third-party penetration tests without slowing release velocity.
• Optimize cloud spend and query performance as data volume grows 5× year-over-year. You will tune warehouse clusters, implement incremental materialization strategies with DBT, and introduce cost-aware partitioning so that complex cohort queries return in seconds, not minutes.
• Champion data reliability through comprehensive unit tests, data-quality monitors (Great Expectations, dbt tests), and real-time alerting. When a pipeline fails at 2 a.m., your self-healing workflows and runbooks ensure the on-call engineer resolves issues before clinicians notice.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, clinicians, and ML engineers to translate fuzzy clinical questions into precise data requirements. You will whiteboard schemas with physicians in the morning and ship code by the afternoon, iterating rapidly based on their frontline feedback.
• Create clear, concise documentation—ERDs, runbooks, onboarding guides—so new team members can contribute within days, not weeks. You will also mentor junior engineers and run internal “lunch-and-learns” on topics like dimensional modeling or advanced Airflow patterns.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies (e.g., Tuva Project, SFTPGo for secure partner transfers, real-time FHIR subscriptions) that keep Chamber at the forefront of value-based care analytics. Your recommendations will shape our technical roadmap for the next 18 months.
• Influence company-level OKRs by translating data insights into actionable product features—whether that’s a new risk-prediction algorithm or an alert that flags a patient likely to be readmitted within 7 days. Your work will be measured in lives improved and Medicare dollars saved.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, including designing and operating cloud-native data warehouses at scale.
• Expert-level SQL and Python; ability to write performant, maintainable code and peer-review others in a collaborative Git workflow.
• Proven experience with modern data stack: Snowflake/BigQuery/Redshift, Airflow/Prefect/Dagster, and DBT for transformation and testing.
• Deep understanding of data security and compliance frameworks—HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2—and a track record of implementing controls without stifling agility.
• Demonstrated success working with messy healthcare data (HL7, FHIR, claims 837/834, CCLF) and modeling it for analytics and machine-learning use cases.
• Strong communication skills and comfort translating between clinical stakeholders and technical teams.
