- • As a Sr. Director of Engineering, Mobility at WEX Inc., you will be at the forefront of innovation, leading the engineering efforts for a critical vertical within our Mobility solutions. This pivotal role is responsible for shaping the future of our payment systems, driving strategic vision, and fostering a culture of excellence within a globally distributed team spanning the USA, India, and Brazil.
- • You will be instrumental in developing, driving, and executing a long-term vision and strategy for the WEX Mobility subsystems. This involves not just managing current operations but also anticipating future needs and technological advancements to ensure WEX remains a leader in the fleet payment solutions space.
- • A core responsibility will be to define and implement a comprehensive architectural roadmap for the Mobility platform. This roadmap must align seamlessly with overarching business objectives and adhere to the highest industry best practices, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- • You will cultivate an environment where innovation, collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning are not just encouraged but are integral to the daily operations of the engineering teams. This involves mentoring leaders and engineers, promoting knowledge sharing, and championing new ideas.
- • Continuously challenging the status quo is essential. You will implement and refine mechanisms to significantly reduce time-to-market for new features and products, leveraging evolving engineering approaches and agile methodologies to maintain a competitive edge.
- • Collaboration extends across the Mobility engineering organization. You will actively work with other engineering teams to identify opportunities for reusing development practices and components, thereby minimizing duplication of effort and maximizing efficiency.
- • A significant part of your role will be to craft, lead, manage, and grow high-performance engineering leaders and teams. This includes the critical tasks of hiring top talent, coaching individuals for success, promoting career advancement, and retaining high performers to ensure the achievement of WEX's ambitious goals.
- • You will forge strong partnerships with product management and commercial (sales) teams. This collaboration is key to driving product direction, prioritizing development efforts, and working backward from customer requirements to ensure WEX solutions not only meet but exceed customer expectations.
- • Establishing robust and clear engineering roadmaps is vital for maintaining team clarity and motivation. You will ensure these roadmaps are well-communicated and understood, fostering a shared sense of purpose and direction.
- • You will be responsible for driving effective planning, execution, and auditing mechanisms at monthly, weekly, and quarterly cadences, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope.
- • Partnering with product and commercial leads, you will maintain a well-thought-out product roadmap and establish clear, inter-dependent Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that align engineering efforts with business outcomes.
- • A key focus will be on establishing and measuring metrics-driven development productivity across the entire Mobility engineering organization. This data-driven approach will inform continuous improvement efforts and highlight areas of success.
- • You will be expected to comfortably present, influence, and communicate complex technical strategies and progress to the senior leadership team. Providing regular, insightful updates on challenges and opportunities within the Mobility domain is crucial for informed decision-making at the executive level.
- • Effectively managing stakeholders up, across, and down the organization through tangible written strategy documents and clear plans will be a hallmark of your success in this role.
- • The Mobility systems you will oversee provide essential SaaS and API solutions to a diverse customer base across North America, enabling credit issuance for fleet companies and owner-operators through WEX Credit Cards. These cards are widely accepted, and your work will directly impact how businesses manage their fleet expenses through advanced spend control configurations.
