Full Job Description

📋 Description

  • • Join Strayer University, Inc. as a Senior Full Stack Engineer, a pivotal role within our dynamic Research & Development group at Strategic Education Inc. (SEI). This isn't a typical academic engineering position; instead, you'll be a key player in a high-impact innovation hub, acting as a strategic engine for the entire SEI ecosystem. You will collaborate directly with our innovative arms, Workforce Edge and Sophia Learning, to architect, prototype, and bring to life the next generation of cutting-edge tools designed to seamlessly bridge the critical gap between learning and earning.
  • • In this forward-thinking role, your responsibilities extend far beyond routine platform maintenance. You will be instrumental in exploring and defining the future of EdTech. Your expertise will be divided between two crucial areas: building mission-critical Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications that serve our diverse partners, and leading special Research & Development (R&D) initiatives that actively push the boundaries of educational technology. Whether you're translating intricate business needs into elegant solutions for Sophia's learners or experimenting with advanced agentic systems for Workforce Edge, your contributions will have a direct and profound impact on enabling economic mobility for adult learners across the globe.
  • • This role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact across multiple brands within the SEI portfolio. You will provide the essential technical vision and execution for diverse partners such as Sophia Learning, which focuses on delivering low-cost, high-quality ACE credits, and Workforce Edge, dedicated to employer-sponsored education. Your work will ensure that their technological infrastructure is as innovative and forward-thinking as their respective missions.
  • • A substantial and exciting portion of your time will be dedicated to special internal initiatives. This R&D autonomy allows you to explore emerging technologies, engage in rapid prototyping, and develop custom tools that are vital for keeping SEI at the absolute forefront of the EdTech industry. You will be empowered to experiment, innovate, and shape the future technological landscape of our organization.
  • • The core of your work will be a workforce-first focus. You will be building and refining technology specifically designed for the complexities and demands of the modern career landscape. This involves creating scalable, high-quality solutions that effectively serve the needs of both adult learners striving for career advancement and our global employer partners seeking to upskill their workforce.
  • • You will be expected to adhere to and actively promote Agile development methodologies, including the principles of Test-Driven Development (TDD). This includes setting up and maintaining automated build environments to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • • A key responsibility will be to recommend innovative and effective technical approaches that contribute to the development of reliable, efficient, and maintainable code, aligning with best practices.
  • • You will thrive in a fast-paced Agile development environment, contributing to sprint planning, execution, and retrospectives.
  • • You will perform comprehensive analysis, development (coding), and implementation of custom software solutions, ensuring they meet designed specifications and deliver enhanced value to the business.
  • • Close collaboration with project team members and other information technology colleagues will be essential to create robust systems that precisely meet defined customer requirements.
  • • You will actively participate in and drive new software releases, working closely with Quality Assurance (QA) teams to create thorough test plans and assisting in the development of effective implementation plans.
  • • A critical aspect of the role involves troubleshooting and recommending effective solutions for existing production issues, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum system stability.
  • • You will provide essential Level 3 support for developed applications after their implementation into the enterprise environment, acting as a subject matter expert.
  • • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of technical best practices within the engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • • Leverage your expertise in modern web technologies to build scalable and performant applications.
  • • Engage with emerging technologies and research their potential applications within the EdTech space.
  • • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
