Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the full life-cycle of parcel-system installations at North America’s busiest hubs. As Sr. Site Manager you are the single point of accountability for every construction, mechanical, electrical, steel-erection, commissioning, and safety activity that happens on your site. You will lead 50–200 subcontractor craftspeople, coordinate with Vanderlande engineering, procurement, and the customer’s operations team, and deliver a turnkey material-handling system that must sort millions of parcels flawlessly from day one.
- • Translate complex engineering drawings into an executable plan. You will run constructability reviews while the design is still on the screen, flag clashes in Navisworks, and lock down the “issued-for-construction” package so that field teams can build without surprises. Weekly pull-planning sessions with mechanical, electrical, and controls trades keep the three-week look-ahead realistic and the critical path protected.
- • Build and defend the installation budget. Working side-by-side with the Project Manager you will develop detailed work-breakdown structures, validate subcontractor bids, negotiate final scopes, and then track every change order against the baseline. Your monthly cost reports and cash-flow curves will be scrutinized by senior leadership; accuracy and transparency are non-negotiable.
- • Drive a Beyond-Zero safety culture. You will chair daily toolbox talks, enforce Vanderlande and OSHA standards, and personally audit high-risk activities such as high-voltage tie-ins, conveyor steel erection at 40 ft, and confined-space entries. When incidents occur, you own the root-cause analysis and the corrective-action plan.
- • Orchestrate commissioning like a symphony. Mechanical completion, dry runs, FAT, SAT, and 24-hour burn-in all happen on your watch. You will sequence vendor start-ups, manage utility outages with the customer, and keep the punch-list under 50 items before turnover. Your sign-off is the customer’s green light for peak-season volume.
- • Master the paperwork that proves we delivered. RFI logs, red-line as-builts, daily reports, schedule updates, permit matrices, and quality-control checklists all flow through you. At project close-out you will hand over a digital O&M package that maintenance teams can navigate blindfolded.
- • Be the diplomat on the ground. Parcel hubs never shut down, so you will negotiate work windows at 2 a.m., explain schedule impacts to UPS or FedEx directors, and keep union stewards aligned—all while protecting Vanderlande’s contractual rights. Your communication style is assertive, solution-oriented, and always professional.
- • Travel is the nature of the game—80–90 % of the year you will be on the road, living out of project sites from California to New Jersey. Vanderlande provides a travel allowance, per-diem, and a company laptop so you can run the job from a trailer, hotel, or airport lounge.
- • Grow the next generation of site leaders. You will mentor junior superintendents, delegate stretch assignments, and feed high-potential names to the talent pipeline. Your legacy is not just the sorter you commissioned, but the careers you launched.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Engineering, or equivalent experience plus 7+ years of construction management in the parcel material-handling sector (UPS, FedEx, DHL experience strongly preferred)
- • Proven oversight of mechanical and electrical subcontractors in live industrial facilities, including renovations and retrofits of existing structures
- • OSHA 30-hour safety card and demonstrated ability to foster a Beyond-Zero safety culture
- • Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and the ability to read complex mechanical, electrical, and steel installation drawings
- • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to customer executives, contractors, and internal management
- • Willingness to travel 80–90 % of the year across North American project sites
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fast-track to global opportunities—Vanderlande operates on six continents and promotes from within
- • Access to the Vanderlande Academy with industry-leading technical and leadership courses
- • Competitive compensation package including travel allowance, per-diem, and performance bonus
- • Top Employer certification since 2020, underscoring our commitment to continuous employee development and long-term career growth
