Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the architecture, design, and delivery of high-impact consumer-facing features that reach 60 million learners worldwide, translating product vision into scalable, reliable code that powers over 1 billion learning interactions every week.
  • • Partner daily with Product Managers, Designers, and Data Scientists in a tight, cross-functional squad to ideate, prototype, and ship end-to-end solutions—from first user story to final A/B test—ensuring every line of code measurably improves learner outcomes.
  • • Build and evolve resilient backend services in Go/PHP and elegant front-end experiences in React/Next.js or native mobile stacks (UIKit/SwiftUI/Jetpack Compose), while leveraging GCP, Kubernetes, Pub/Sub, and modern CI/CD to deploy multiple times per day with confidence.
  • • Drive technical excellence across the Consumer Experience pillar by leading architecture reviews, championing testing strategies, and instituting observability best practices (Datadog, Rollbar, BigQuery) that keep p99 latency low and user delight high.
  • • Decompose ambiguous, large-scale initiatives into clear, shippable milestones; scope, sequence, and execute them autonomously while transparently communicating trade-offs, risks, and progress to stakeholders at every level.
  • • Act as a force-multiplier for the engineering org by mentoring junior teammates through thoughtful code reviews, pair programming, and brown-bag sessions that level-up collective expertise in distributed systems, performance tuning, and user-centric design.
  • • Continuously experiment with generative AI, adaptive learning algorithms, and cognitive-science-driven personalization to create next-generation study modes that make Quizlet the most effective and delightful learning platform on Earth.
  • • Influence product strategy with data-informed insights—analyzing user behavior, running controlled experiments, and iterating rapidly to boost engagement, retention, and subscription conversion across web, iOS, and Android surfaces.
  • • Uphold rigorous standards for security, privacy, and accessibility, ensuring that features are safe, inclusive, and performant for the diverse, global community of students, teachers, and lifelong learners who rely on Quizlet.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of Quizlet’s engineering culture by proposing new tools, refining development workflows, and participating in guilds that shape everything from build systems to incident response playbooks.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of software engineering experience in fast-paced, product-centric environments, with a proven record of shipping complex, user-facing features end-to-end.
  • • Expert-level proficiency in at least one major language (Go, PHP, TypeScript) and comfort working across the stack—backend services, APIs, React/Next.js front-end, or native mobile (iOS/Android).
  • • Demonstrated ability to design and operate distributed, cloud-native systems on GCP or AWS, including microservices, event-driven architectures, relational and NoSQL datastores, and container orchestration (Kubernetes/Docker).
  • • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working cross-functionally alongside Product, Design, and Data Science to translate user needs into technical solutions.
  • • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with education, consumer subscription, or ad-tech platforms; background in high-scale data or performance engineering; prior mentoring or tech-lead responsibilities.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Market-competitive total compensation including base salary and company stock options, reviewed annually against London tech benchmarks.
  • • 25 days of paid annual leave plus UK bank holidays, with a culture that actively encourages unplugging and recharging.
  • • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance—100% employer-paid for employees and 75% for dependents—and a generous Aviva pension with employer contributions.
  • • Annual professional-development stipend, 40 hours of paid volunteer time off, and paid family, medical, and caregiver leave to support your whole life, not just your work life.
