- • As a Senior Technical Writer at Rackspace Technology Global, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative and clarity of our cutting-edge Cloud Management Platform (CMP) documentation. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a dynamic and rapidly evolving technology landscape, ensuring that our developer and operator audiences have the precise, actionable information they need to succeed. You will be instrumental in producing high-quality, developer- and operator-friendly content, including comprehensive API specifications, detailed runbooks, seamless onboarding guides, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs). Our commitment to a 'docs-as-code' philosophy means you'll be working with modern tools and workflows, integrating documentation seamlessly into the development lifecycle.
- • Your primary responsibility will be the meticulous maintenance and enhancement of our API documentation. This includes ensuring OpenAPI specifications are accurate, up-to-date, and easily consumable by developers. You will also be responsible for creating and refining SDK examples that clearly demonstrate how to integrate with our platform, along with comprehensive usage guides that empower users to leverage our services effectively. The goal is to provide a clear, consistent, and reliable source of truth for all API-related interactions, reducing friction and accelerating developer adoption.
- • Beyond API documentation, you will delve into the architectural underpinnings of our CMP. This involves documenting key architectural decisions through ADRs, providing a transparent record of design choices and their implications. Furthermore, you will develop detailed operational playbooks and runbooks. These critical documents will guide our operations teams and customers through complex procedures, troubleshooting scenarios, and routine maintenance tasks, ensuring the stability and efficiency of the platform. The emphasis will be on clarity, accuracy, and providing step-by-step instructions that minimize errors and downtime.
- • A crucial aspect of this role involves the creation and management of release notes. You will be responsible for clearly communicating new features, enhancements, bug fixes, and deprecations to our user base. This requires a keen understanding of product development and the ability to translate technical changes into user-centric language. Additionally, you will contribute to UI help content, ensuring that in-application guidance is intuitive and supportive. A significant part of your contribution will be to champion and enforce our established documentation standards and versioning strategies, ensuring consistency and maintainability across all published content.
- • You will be an advocate for best practices in technical writing within a docs-as-code environment. This means actively participating in the development and refinement of our documentation toolchain, which includes Markdown for content creation and potentially static site generators like MkDocs or Docusaurus for publishing. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product management, and support teams to gather information, validate technical accuracy, and ensure that our documentation meets the evolving needs of our users. Your ability to understand complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, concise, and accessible language will be paramount.
- • Success in this role will be measured by key performance indicators such as the completeness and accuracy of the documentation, a measurable reduction in onboarding time for new users and developers, and a significant deflection of support inquiries through comprehensive and self-service documentation. You will be expected to proactively identify areas for improvement in our documentation suite and drive initiatives to enhance user experience and operational efficiency. - • Working remotely from India, you will align with a shift timing of 1 pm to 10 pm IST, from Sunday to Thursday. This schedule is designed to facilitate effective collaboration with global teams and ensure timely support for our diverse user base. You will leverage tools such as Markdown, MkDocs/Docusaurus, OpenAPI/Swagger, Mermaid/PlantUML, and GitLab to produce and manage high-quality documentation.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience as a Technical Writer, specifically documenting developer platforms and APIs, with a strong understanding of the 'docs-as-code' methodology and proficiency in Markdown.
- • Ability to read and interpret code (Python/TypeScript) and API contracts (e.g., OpenAPI/Swagger) to ensure technical accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- • Solid understanding of private cloud operational models, including IaaS, PaaS, DBaaS, networking concepts, and Identity and Access Management (IAM/PAM).
- • Experience documenting operational procedures for databases such as PostgreSQL and MS SQL.
