📋 Description

• As a Staff Android Engineer on the Brand Ad Formats team at Reddit, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of advertising on the platform. This role is crucial for transforming Reddit's Video Ads into an industry-leading offering and developing innovative, reddit-unique ad formats for Android. You will be instrumental in driving the technical strategy, ensuring high performance, scalability, and exceptional quality for ad experiences that reach millions of users. Your work will directly impact how advertisers connect with Reddit's vast and engaged community, contributing to major brand initiatives and measurable outcomes.
• In this dynamic position, your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass leading the technical vision for Video Ads, collaborating closely with Product and Design teams to define and execute a roadmap that elevates this format to an industry standard. You will architect and implement new, highly interactive, and potentially AI-driven ad formats that leverage User-Generated Content (UGC), ensuring they are robust, scalable, and performant across the Android platform. A significant part of your role will involve providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers, establishing and enforcing Android best practices, and conducting thorough design reviews to maintain code quality and architectural integrity. You will own the full development lifecycle, from the initial stages of discovery and prototyping through rigorous testing, data-driven experimentation, and successful deployment. This includes actively participating in and leading the analysis of product metrics and experiment results to inform future development. Furthermore, you will be responsible for raising the technical bar across the organization by mentoring senior engineers in ad formats, advocating for customer needs, and championing operational excellence in design and testing.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, demonstrating staff-level seniority and a proven track record of technical leadership.
• Minimum of 3+ years of deep expertise in Kotlin and modern Android architectural patterns, with a history of successfully completing 4+ Android development projects from ideation to production deployment.
• Prior experience in Ad Tech, specifically building highly interactive or rich-media mobile experiences, is highly desirable.
• A strong product mindset with a proven ability to deliver user-facing features where UI polish and performance are critical.
• Demonstrated ability in system design, with experience navigating complex, data-intensive environments and building fault-tolerant client-side systems.
• Experience leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) tools to enhance software engineering productivity.
• Fluency in working with product metrics, designing, and analyzing experiments, with exposure to tools like BigQuery, HEX, or Firebase.
• BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
