📋 Description

• As a Staff Backend Engineer at Bestow, you will lead the technical architecture and reliability of the IPC (Implementation & Platform Configuration) Engineering team, powering the digital life insurance enrollment experience for major carrier partners.
• You will design, build, and operate backend services using Python, Go, and a Java-based Drools rules engine, while driving platform scalability to support new carrier onboarding and product launches.
• You will work alongside Product Managers, Underwriters, and external partners in a remote-first, async-heavy environment, mentoring engineers and setting technical direction for the team.
• You will own end-to-end production reliability, define SLOs, improve observability, share on-call responsibilities, and help the team adopt agentic AI coding tools as a core part of their workflow.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of professional backend software development experience with prior experience at the Staff or Senior level
• Strong proficiency in Go and Python; Java experience is a plus
• Deep experience with distributed systems, microservices, and API design (Protocol Buffers, OpenAPI)
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure including Kubernetes, Docker, and GCP (or equivalent)
• Proven track record building, deploying, and troubleshooting production services end-to-end
• Demonstrated experience with agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) integrated into daily workflow
