📋 Description

• As a Staff Backend Engineer on the Grafana App Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in transforming Grafana into a scalable, multi-tenant observability platform that enables both open-source and proprietary apps to seamlessly integrate with dashboards, alerts, incidents, and telemetry. This role is critical to Grafana Labs’ mission of scaling its Cloud/Grafana-as-a-service business while maintaining the integrity and reliability of its core architecture.
• Your day-to-day responsibilities will include coding new features, enhancing system operability, authoring and reviewing design documents, shaping the product roadmap, mentoring teammates, collaborating across squads, and participating in on-call rotations (weekday 12h x 5d and weekend 24h x 2d) to ensure system reliability and customer experience ownership.

• In this role, you’ll deepen your expertise in distributed systems, SaaS platform engineering, and multi-tenancy at scale, while gaining hands-on experience with modern AI-assisted development tools (including frontier models like GPT-Codex 5/3, Claude Opus 4.7, and Gemini 3 Pro) and contributing to the evolution of one of the most widely adopted observability platforms in the world.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong coding skills with operational experience — you have operated the software you built
• Experience working on SaaS platforms at scale, including distributed systems challenges such as scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability
• Excellent communication skills — ability to express ideas clearly in writing and meetings, and choose the appropriate communication mode
• Willingness to collaborate across teams and align work with the needs of other squads and external stakeholders
• Pragmatic mindset — prioritizing progress over perfection, comfortable with ambiguity
• Familiarity with or enthusiasm to learn Golang (used on the backend)
