📋 Description

• Build and scale the Hopper Technology Solutions (HTS) platform, a configurable, multi-tenant travel commerce engine that powers booking experiences for global partners including banks, airlines, and fintech leaders.
• Own end-to-end development of backend features that connect cardholder behavior to personalized travel offers, driving incremental spend and partner competitiveness.
• Architect scalable, foundational systems that enable rapid launch of new partner experiences with minimal custom engineering.
• Orchestrate AI agents and automated workflows to accelerate development cycles, shipping features in a fraction of the time previously possible—without compromising reliability or safety.
• Design and implement guardrails and feedback loops to ensure AI-assisted development remains productive, accurate, and aligned with product goals.
• Work in a low-process, high-autonomy environment with senior engineers, making technical decisions asynchronously through clear documentation and specs.
• Collaborate directly with product managers and business partners to define and refine the roadmap, contributing technical vision to strategic priorities.
• Improve codebase maintainability and velocity for both human engineers and AI agents, prioritizing outcomes over technical elegance.
• Work across the stack as needed using AI tooling, but primarily focus on backend systems built in Scala and GCP services.
• Translate customer experience goals into technical architecture, ensuring quality is defined by impact on users and partners, not just code purity.
• Articulate tradeoffs in design decisions clearly, explaining not just how a solution works, but why it was chosen and what risks or compromises it entails.
• Contribute to a diverse, collaborative team culture by giving and receiving feedback to drive individual and collective growth.
• Leverage deep understanding of LLM strengths and limitations to determine when to trust AI output and when to intervene manually.
• Drive adoption of distributed systems patterns that support high-volume, low-latency travel commerce transactions across global partners.
• Participate in shaping the future of travel fintech by integrating Hopper’s proprietary products—like Cancel for Any Reason and Flight Disruption Assistance—into partner platforms.

🎯 Requirements

• Experience designing and shipping complex backend systems at scale, preferably in Scala, Go, Python, or Java
• Proven ability to orchestrate AI agents and automated workflows to accelerate development while maintaining system reliability
• Experience building guardrails and feedback loops for AI-assisted development
• Strong product thinking anchored in customer experience rather than technical purity
• Mastery-level willingness to learn and work with distributed systems in Scala
• Ability to articulate technical decisions, tradeoffs, and reasoning clearly and asynchronously
