📋 Description

• Build and scale the Hopper Technology Solutions (HTS) platform, a configurable, multi-tenant travel commerce engine that powers booking experiences for global partners including banks, airlines, and fintech leaders.
• Own end-to-end development of backend features that connect cardholder behavior to personalized travel offers, driving incremental spend and partner competitiveness.
• Architect scalable, foundational systems that enable rapid deployment of new partner experiences with minimal custom engineering.
• Leverage AI agents and automated workflows to accelerate development cycles, orchestrating multi-step processes rather than relying on code completion tools.
• Design and implement guardrails and feedback loops to ensure AI-assisted development remains reliable, safe, and aligned with product goals.
• Work autonomously in a low-process environment with senior engineers, driving technical decisions through asynchronous documentation and clear specs.
• Collaborate directly with product managers and business partners to define roadmap priorities and refine technical requirements based on customer impact.
• Improve codebase maintainability by optimizing systems for both human developers and AI agents to move quickly while ensuring safety and reliability.
• Ship features across the stack—primarily backend in Scala and GCP—but use AI tooling to engage with frontend (React + TypeScript) components as needed to deliver complete functionality.
• Translate customer experience goals into technical architecture, prioritizing real-world impact over theoretical elegance.
• Articulate tradeoffs in design decisions clearly, explaining not just how a solution works but why it was chosen and what compromises were made.
• Contribute to a diverse, feedback-rich engineering culture by giving and receiving constructive technical input to foster collective growth.
• Operate as an independent contractor under Irish law, managing your own tax, PRSI, and VAT compliance through a registered business or PSC.
• Maintain professional indemnity insurance and provide proof of valid business registration to fulfill contractual obligations.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience building and scaling distributed backend systems in Scala or a willingness to master it at a mastery level
• Demonstrated ability to design and manage AI-assisted development workflows, including agent orchestration, feedback loops, and quality guardrails
• Strong product thinking anchored in customer experience, not just technical perfection
• Experience owning features end-to-end, from backend architecture to partner-facing delivery
• Ability to work autonomously in a low-process, high-trust environment with asynchronous communication
• Valid business registration and professional indemnity insurance for independent contractor engagement in Ireland
