- • Lead the design, automation, and optimization of Assured’s database infrastructure, primarily focused on PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora, to ensure high reliability, security, and scalability for a growing SaaS platform.
- • Design and implement robust monitoring, tuning, and scaling strategies to support expanding workloads and maintain system uptime across production environments.
- • Build automation tools and workflows to streamline database management tasks, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and reduced manual toil.
- • Drive optimization initiatives that improve database performance, reduce latency, and enhance overall system health for claims processing systems handling billions of dollars in payments.
- • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to integrate database reliability practices into application development cycles and enforce best practices for data integrity and availability.
- • Evolve beyond database-specific responsibilities to contribute broadly to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) culture, including incident response, on-call rotation, and infrastructure resilience.
- • Work with application codebases to understand and resolve performance bottlenecks, requiring comfort working near or alongside application developers using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.
- • Partner with infrastructure teams to align database architecture with broader platform goals, including containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- • Contribute to the development of alerting, logging, and observability systems tailored to database performance metrics and failure modes.
- • Ensure database operations comply with security standards and regulatory requirements critical to the insurance industry’s data sensitivity.
- • Mentor junior engineers and promote a culture of reliability, ownership, and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
- • Support the transition from manual, legacy claims processing systems to modern, automated digital platforms that serve large insurers and their claimants.
- • Participate in on-call rotations to respond to critical database incidents, troubleshoot outages, and implement post-mortem improvements.
- • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and architectural patterns to enhance database reliability and operational efficiency.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Database Administration roles
- • Deep expertise in PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora, with hands-on experience managing production workloads at scale
- • Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, and comfort working close to application code
- • A strong background in highly available, scalable database design and operations
- • Proven ability to optimize database performance, resolve complex issues, and enforce best practices
- • A solid engineering foundation and a passion for building reliable systems
