Staff Engineer, Workflow Engine

📋 Description

• • As a Staff Engineer on the Workflow Engine team at Stripe, you will play a critical role in maintaining and advancing the infrastructure that enables asynchronous, stateful workflows across the company’s engineering organization. This platform is foundational to products like Stripe Capital, Billing, and Connect, ensuring reliable execution of financial data and transaction processing at scale.
• • Day to day, you will design, build, and maintain core infrastructure used by all engineering teams for asynchronous processing; liaise with partner teams to ensure the platform meets their needs; debug production issues across services and stack levels, including participating in on-call rotations; plan for future growth of the asynchronous infrastructure; analyze software for performance and quality improvements; mentor engineers; and manage projects with measurable impact and long-term reliability planning.
• • The Workflow Engine team is part of Stripe’s broader engineering organization, which builds the financial infrastructure powering millions of businesses globally. The team focuses on abstracting complex distributed systems challenges so engineers can concentrate on business logic, directly enabling innovation across Stripe’s product suite.
• • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in large-scale distributed systems, influence technical roadmap execution across multiple teams, strengthen your leadership and mentoring capabilities, and gain experience in driving reliability, scalability, and developer experience for critical infrastructure used company-wide.
