Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Own end-to-end development of AI-native features across the full stack, including Next.js/React frontend, NestJS/TypeScript backend, and Python-based AI services.
- • Define and enforce frontend quality standards for agent-driven, conversational UIs, establishing component patterns and interaction models for AI-powered interfaces.
- • Embed directly in product squads to collaborate with product and design teams, translating prototypes into production-ready features with technical ownership.
- • Build and maintain the integration layer between the user-facing application and the Civic Agent Platform, owning API contracts, data schemas, and system boundaries.
- • Contribute to evaluation pipelines, golden datasets, and CI gates that detect and prevent LLM failures before they reach users.
- • Elevate engineering standards by transforming recurring technical challenges into reusable infrastructure, shared tooling, and improved development practices.
- • Lead technical discussions across infrastructure, deployment, and observability domains, making informed tradeoffs and escalating critical issues appropriately.
- • Report directly to the CTO and collaborate closely with the Principal Engineer and squad Tech Leads to align technical direction with product goals.
- • Ship production-grade LLM-powered features with deep understanding of UI challenges including latency, streaming, uncertainty, and failure states in agentic systems.
- • Apply AI-native coding practices using tools like Claude Code, Cursor, and MCPs as part of daily development workflows.
- • Design UIs that gracefully handle model errors, edge cases, and output uncertainty — prioritizing content safety and responsible presentation for non-technical users.
- • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in AI engineering, deeply researching emerging technologies and integrating durable innovations into the product.
- • Have hands-on experience with agent frameworks such as Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI tool use, LangChain, or equivalent, and design frontend/API contracts to support them.
- • Contribute to the development and maintenance of eval pipelines and quality gates specifically for LLM features in production environments.
- • Work in a fully remote, fast-paced environment with a bias toward action, balancing strategic architecture with rapid execution.
- • Demonstrate strong opinions loosely held, with a commitment to engineering excellence and a culture of candid, respectful feedback.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of engineering experience with at least 3 years at Staff level or equivalent scope owning full stack product delivery
- • Proficiency in Next.js/React for frontend and NestJS/TypeScript for backend, with no avoided layers in the stack
- • Deep working knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code tools
- • Shipped production LLM-powered features as a full stack engineer with understanding of agentic UI challenges
- • Experience with agent patterns (e.g., Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI tool use, LangChain) and designing frontend/API contracts for them
- • Demonstrated contribution to eval pipelines, golden datasets, or CI quality gates for LLM features
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100% coverage of health, dental, and vision benefits for employee and dependents
- • Unlimited PTO (sick and vacation) policy with emphasis on work-life balance
- • $50/month stipend for home internet or co-working expenses
- • Individual learning & development budget to support professional growth
