• As a key member of our high-performing engineering and product team, you will play a pivotal role in scaling our platform and amplifying our impact. From day one, you will collaborate closely with our founding team, based in London and Paris, to influence product vision and architect our technical landscape. This is an opportunity to build technology that directly addresses the complex challenges faced by our customers, requiring a blend of empathy, curiosity, and creative problem-solving to deliver solutions that balance impact, effort, and user delight.
• Your responsibilities will span the entire product development lifecycle. You will contribute to ideation, design and build intuitive, performant web interfaces tailored for business owners in emerging markets, particularly in Africa. This includes developing robust backend logic, managing deployment pipelines, and actively gathering and incorporating user feedback to iterate on features. You will be instrumental in communicating new features both internally to align teams and externally to inform and educate our users.
• A significant aspect of this role involves defining and managing delivery milestones, ensuring seamless alignment between engineering efforts and product priorities. You will champion code quality through comprehensive testing strategies, thorough documentation, and rigorous code reviews, fostering a culture of technical excellence. Furthermore, you will implement and uphold stringent IT security and data protection best practices, crucial within a regulated financial environment.
• Proactively driving architectural decisions is paramount. You will identify and implement improvements to enhance the scalability, observability, and modularity of our codebase, ensuring our platform can support rapid growth and evolving market needs. Operational excellence is also a key focus; you will identify opportunities to automate internal processes, contribute to our tech best practices, and handle production incidents with confidence and efficiency.
• Beyond technical contributions, you will act as a technical leader within the team. You will mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional development through pairing sessions, constructive code reviews, and consistent feedback. You will represent the engineering function in cross-functional discussions with departments such as Finance, Operations, and Senior Leadership, translating business objectives into actionable technical plans.
• You will help set and maintain high team standards for communication, collaboration, and technical execution, contributing to a positive and productive work environment. Our tech stack includes Typescript, React, NextJS, NodeJS, Express, and PostgreSQL. Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth, VC-backed environment is highly desirable, as is a comfort level with ambiguity and involvement in the full product development spectrum. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively conveying ideas and designs to diverse audiences.
• Recent projects undertaken by the team include developing automated payouts and AI-driven invoice approval systems, streamlining onboarding and payment processes with global networks like Swift, creating a WhatsApp bot for customer quote generation, building a self-serve onboarding flow for KYC document collection, implementing asynchronous workers for OCR invoice processing, and developing internal tooling to manage high-volume transactions. • A strong product mindset and a deep understanding of web development best practices across both frontend and backend, with proficiency in JavaScript technologies (Typescript, React, NextJS, NodeJS, Express).
• Proven experience in a high-growth, VC-backed engineering team, with a track record of building and shipping products used by real customers.
• Comfort and adaptability in an early-stage startup environment characterized by high pace, rapid growth, involvement in the entire product development lifecycle, and a degree of ambiguity.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating technical concepts and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
