📋 Description

• As a Staff Full Stack Software Engineer at Upside Services, Inc., you will play a pivotal role in transforming brick-and-mortar commerce by building scalable, high-impact software that connects consumers with local businesses through innovative cashback and profit-generation technology. Your work will directly contribute to billions of dollars in annual commerce flowing through the platform, driving measurable value for retailers, consumers, and sustainability initiatives.
• You will take ownership of end-to-end feature development, from ideation to production, ensuring technical excellence, system reliability, and alignment with business goals while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and quality across engineering teams.
• Day to day, you will design, develop, and maintain full-stack applications using React, TypeScript, Python, and AWS services, implementing responsive UIs and robust backend systems that power user experiences and merchant dashboards.
• You will lead technical discussions and architecture decisions, advocating for best practices in observability, automation, and system resilience, while mentoring junior engineers and guiding the team toward higher effectiveness and impact.
• You will partner closely with product, design, data science, and marketing teams to translate business needs into technical solutions, including experimentation frameworks, personalization features, and payment/billing systems that deliver measurable outcomes.
• You will write and maintain comprehensive automated tests, document system design and tradeoffs, and drive quality upstream by promoting early validation, testing, and CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions and Terraform.
• You will leverage data from tools like Snowflake and DBT to debug complex systems, form hypotheses, and implement improvements that enhance performance, security, and speed of execution.
• You will apply generative AI tools such as GitHub Copilot and OpenAI across the software development lifecycle to increase velocity, reduce toil, and improve code quality, while encouraging team adoption and innovation.
• You will help cultivate a psychologically safe and inclusive engineering culture where speaking up, sharing insights, and challenging the status quo are valued as pathways to better solutions and team growth.
• You will set clear, achievable delivery expectations, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain alignment with stakeholders through transparent communication and proactive risk management.
• You will contribute to Upside’s mission-driven engineering culture by focusing on meaningful work, continuous learning, and building systems that scale with integrity and impact.

• You will achieve mastery in modern full-stack development, cloud-native architectures, and AI-augmented engineering while making a tangible difference in how everyday commerce creates value for communities and the planet.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading full-stack engineering efforts with deep expertise in React, TypeScript, Python, and AWS services (including API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, EventBridge)
• Strong ability to mentor and upskill engineers, drive technical excellence, and improve team effectiveness through guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing
• Demonstrated success in building resilient, observable systems and applying data-driven approaches to debug complex issues and drive performance improvements
• Proficiency in writing reliable automated tests, using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and implementing CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions
• Solid grasp of core web and browser fundamentals, semantic HTML/CSS, and JavaScript concepts, with a commitment to quality and accessibility
• Strong desire or proven ability to integrate generative AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, OpenAI) across the SDLC to enhance velocity and code quality
