Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer (Platform) at Neara Inc., you will own the infrastructure and systems that enable the ML discipline to move fast, ship reliably, and scale without breaking, directly supporting the creation of engineering-grade, physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids that help utilities stress-test infrastructure against extreme weather and build a more resilient global energy future.
- • Day to day, you will define and drive the multi-year technical roadmap for ML platform components including training pipelines, serving architecture, experiment management, and monitoring systems; build tooling that accelerates ML delivery from idea to production; solve hard distributed systems problems involving GPU hardware, sparse tensors, and cross-cloud deployment; design scalable serving architectures for spiky production loads; and unblock the ML team by identifying bottlenecks and establishing contracts between training, evaluation, and serving.
- • You will join a team of brilliant, mission-driven minds at Neara, a company creating cutting-edge multi-modal spatial frontier models using point cloud, geospatial, and asset data across four continents, where innovation thrives because everyone owns the mission and collaboration is key to scaling impact globally.
- • In this role, you will learn to lead platform strategy at the intersection of ML research and production engineering, gain deep experience with novel geospatial AI challenges, influence engineering roadmaps without direct authority, and help deploy frontier-level spatial intelligence to real-world utility customers, accelerating climate resilience for critical infrastructure.
🎯 Requirements
- • Significant hands-on experience building and operating training pipelines, distributed compute, model serving, and monitoring systems at scale.
- • Strong proficiency writing and optimising custom CUDA kernels for deep learning training, ideally across non-text/image data types, with experience diagnosing performance bottlenecks in sparse architectures.
- • Proficiency in Python and PyTorch (or equivalent), strong system design instincts, and experience across AWS, GCP, or Azure, container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), and on-prem or neocloud environments.
- • Demonstrated ability to set ML platform standards, influence engineering roadmaps, and drive alignment on complex infrastructure decisions across teams without direct authority.
- • A track record of leading, mentoring, and coaching ML engineers, raising the technical bar through hands-on guidance, documentation, and internal standards.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary
- • Meaningful ESOP
- • Fully Flexible Work Environment with a fully stocked office and impressive snack collection in Redfern
- • Regular office events
- • The opportunity to work on a genuinely complex, innovative, and industry-leading product that makes a genuine difference in the world by increasing climate resilience for critical infrastructure
