Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Own the foundational infrastructure that powers Honor’s mission to transform in-home care for older adults. As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will architect, build, and scale the cloud-native platform that enables our engineering teams to ship life-changing software faster, safer, and more reliably.
  • • Lead the design and implementation of our next-generation Kubernetes-based compute platform, spanning multiple AWS regions and serving thousands of concurrent caregivers, families, and clinicians. You will define the golden paths for service deployment, observability, and security that every Honor engineer uses daily.
  • • Drive infrastructure-as-code excellence across Terraform, Helm, and CDK stacks that manage over 200 microservices. You will set the bar for code reviews, testing strategies, and automated policy enforcement so that every change is reproducible, auditable, and reversible.
  • • Champion Site Reliability Engineering practices by defining SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for critical care workflows. You will build self-healing automation that detects anomalies, triggers rollbacks, and pages the right owners—often before a single caregiver notices an issue.
  • • Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through pair programming, architecture reviews, and guild talks. You will grow the next generation of platform leaders while raising the technical ceiling of the entire organization.
  • • Partner with product, data, security, and compliance teams to translate HIPAA, SOC 2, and state regulatory requirements into secure-by-default infrastructure patterns. Your guardrails will ensure that sensitive health data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is least-privilege, and audit trails are immutable.
  • • Optimize cloud spend across a $3M annual AWS budget by rightsizing workloads, leveraging Spot and Graviton instances, and implementing automated cost anomaly detection. You will present monthly savings reports to finance and engineering leadership, turning cost optimization into a shared KPI.
  • • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines that cut average deployment time from 30 minutes to under 5 minutes while increasing deployment frequency by 3Ă—. You will integrate security scanning, dependency checks, and performance tests so that quality gates run in parallel with every pull request.
  • • Establish a culture of blameless post-mortems and continuous improvement. After every incident, you will facilitate learning sessions, update runbooks, and prioritize backlog items that prevent recurrence.
  • • Evaluate emerging technologies—such as service mesh, eBPF observability, or edge computing—and run proof-of-concepts that inform Honor’s 12-month technical roadmap. You will present findings to the CTO and influence company-wide strategic bets.
  • • Own on-call rotations for the platform layer, ensuring 99.9% uptime for services that schedule 100k+ care visits per month. You will refine alert thresholds, automate runbooks, and reduce mean time to resolution (MTTR) quarter over quarter.
  • • Collaborate with data engineering to provision secure, self-service data lakes and streaming pipelines that power real-time analytics for caregiver matching, supply forecasting, and clinical outcomes. Your infrastructure will enable data scientists to iterate on ML models without ever touching production secrets.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and operating production-grade cloud infrastructure on AWS at scale (multi-region, 100+ services)
  • • Expert-level proficiency with Kubernetes, including custom operators, admission webhooks, and cluster federation
  • • Deep expertise in Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK; strong software engineering skills in Go, Python, or TypeScript
  • • Proven track record implementing SRE practices—SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, chaos engineering, and automated incident response
  • • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with HIPAA, SOC 2, or other healthcare compliance frameworks; contributions to open-source cloud-native projects

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture with flexible hours and a $1,000 annual stipend for home-office setup
  • • Competitive equity packages that increase with level and responsibility, plus 401(k) with up to 4% employer match
  • • Zero-cost medical, dental, and vision plans for employees, plus fully employer-paid Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Life Insurance
  • • Generous PTO policy including 20 days vacation, 10 holidays, and 1 volunteer day annually, plus quarterly mental-health days
  • • Annual $2,000 professional-development budget for conferences, courses, and certifications
