📋 Description

• Lead the architectural vision and technical roadmap for Dash0’s backend systems, specifically within the Revenue Engineering team focused on usage-based billing and metering.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable systems that accurately meter every observability event and sync usage data with Stripe, cloud marketplaces, and internal reporting tools to ensure precise, real-time billing.
• Own the reliability, security, and performance of the billing infrastructure, proactively identifying risks and implementing controls to prevent financial or operational incidents.
• Establish and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, and observability across the backend team, ensuring systems are maintainable, debuggable, and observable using OpenTelemetry.
• Mentor engineers across the organization on billing architecture, third-party integrations, and Go-based system design, elevating team-wide technical capability and alignment.
• Improve customer transparency by building usage dashboards and cost-forecasting tools that empower users to control and understand their observability spend.
• Strengthen the notification pipeline to ensure timely, accurate alerts about usage thresholds, billing anomalies, and invoice generation reach the correct stakeholders.
• Deepen integrations with CRM tools and cloud marketplaces to automate data flow, reduce manual toil, and ensure consistency between product usage and revenue capture.
• Apply AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development while exercising rigorous technical judgment to validate, refine, and own all output.
• Champion a product mindset for internal tooling, treating employee-facing systems with the same polish, reliability, and usability as customer-facing features.
• Drive economic efficiency in data infrastructure by optimizing storage, processing, and transmission of high-volume telemetry data without compromising accuracy or latency.
• Translate customer usage patterns and cost-control needs into scalable, reliable backend architecture that directly informs the product roadmap.
• Contribute to and elevate Dash0’s internal observability practices by applying OpenTelemetry expertise to monitor and improve the health of the billing system itself.
• Ship production-ready code within one week of joining, extend billing functionality with measurable improvements by month three, establish new Go-based architectural patterns by month six, and become the technical authority on revenue engineering by month twelve.
• Lead the team through major scaling challenges in metering, invoicing, and marketplace integration, ensuring systems remain robust as customer volume and data volume grow exponentially.
• Foster a culture of psychological safety, technical excellence, and continuous improvement through code reviews, PRD feedback, and process refinement.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience designing and operating billing systems or usage-based pricing models, with deep familiarity with the Stripe API
• Deep architectural expertise in building and scaling distributed backend systems using Go; Java knowledge is a preferred bonus
• Expertise in applying AI and agentic coding tools to accelerate development while maintaining rigorous oversight of output quality
• Strong understanding of data accuracy as a critical business requirement, with a disciplined approach to testing and validation
• Demonstrated track record as a mentor and cultural leader who improves team processes and elevates engineering standards
• Strong background in observability, including hands-on experience with OpenTelemetry and monitoring practices
