đź“‹ Description
- • As the first Staff QA Engineer at Lawhive Inc., you will play a foundational role in establishing a world-class quality assurance function for an AI-native legal tech platform that is transforming how law is practiced globally. This is a high-impact opportunity to shape testing strategy, infrastructure, and culture at a fast-growing Series B startup backed by Google Ventures, Balderton Capital, and TQ Ventures, with a mission to make legal services accessible to everyone through cutting-edge AI.
- • You will own the testing infrastructure to ensure product quality and prevent regressions in AI-first software, collaborating closely with product, engineering, and lawyer users to validate features, refine testing rigor, and contribute to release processes that uphold exceptional standards in a regulated legal environment.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include building and maintaining scalable test suites and CI/CD pipelines that keep pace with rapid product development across web applications, microservices, and AI services; defining and monitoring key user flows, runbooks, and quality metrics; and partnering with DevOps and platform engineers to enhance monitoring and reporting systems.
- • You will work with engineering teams to adopt better testing methodologies and tools, advocating for quality as a shared responsibility and helping to embed testing practices into daily workflows across TypeScript and Python-based systems.
- • Lawhive’s engineering culture emphasizes shipping daily, empathizing with legal users, striving for excellence, and constant learning — you will thrive in this environment by applying a pragmatic yet innovative approach to testing non-deterministic AI systems while ensuring reliability and trust in lawyer-facing products.
- • The tech stack centers on TypeScript for frontend and backend services, Python for AI and data ingestion, AWS for cloud infrastructure, Postgres for data storage, and Terraform for infrastructure as code — you will leverage tools like Playwright, Vitest, Pytest, and GitHub Actions to build end-to-end automated testing solutions.
- • In this role, you will have the autonomy to design testing patterns from the ground up for a high-velocity team, influence quality culture across the organization, and gain deep experience in testing AI-driven software — a rare and valuable skill set in today’s tech landscape.
- • You will grow professionally by tackling novel challenges in LLM-based systems, contributing to a mission-driven company with global ambitions, and working alongside top-tier engineering, design, AI, and legal talent in Lawhive Labs, the company’s frontier innovation hub.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience building and scaling automated testing frameworks and pipelines from scratch in high-velocity engineering environments, particularly using TypeScript and Python ecosystems (e.g., Playwright, Vitest, Pytest, GitHub Actions).
- • Deep familiarity with testing AI/ML or non-deterministic software systems, including strategies for handling variability, monitoring model behavior, and validating LLM-based outputs in production-like conditions.
- • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams — including product, engineering, and domain experts (such as lawyers) — to define quality standards, validate features, and improve testing rigor through feedback loops.
- • Hands-on experience with AWS, Terraform, Postgres, and CI/CD practices, with the ability to integrate testing into infrastructure-as-code and deployment pipelines.
- • A track record of advocating for quality as a team-wide responsibility, including mentoring engineers, introducing testing best practices, and driving adoption of tools and methodologies.
- • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to create clear test plans, runbooks, and quality metrics reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Meaningful early-stage equity in one of Europe’s fastest-growing AI legal tech startups, backed by top-tier investors including Google Ventures and Balderton Capital.
- • 33 days of annual leave per year (25 days + bank holidays), plus your birthday off, supporting work-life balance and long-term well-being.
- • Flexibility to work from anywhere for up to one month per year, enabling global mobility and remote work freedom.
- • Employer pension contributions via Nest, helping you build long-term financial security.
- • Top-spec equipment provided, including a choice of MacBook or Windows laptop, along with necessary peripherals for optimal productivity.
- • Regular team-building activities, social events, and a strong focus on diversity, inclusion, and belonging as core cultural values.
