• • As a Staff Research Scientist, you will be instrumental in spearheading scientific innovation for our core text translation products. This is a high-impact, hands-on role designed for a research leader capable of defining long-term scientific strategies, rapidly prototyping new concepts, executing large-scale experiments, and driving groundbreaking advancements from conception through to production deployment. In this highly competitive and rapidly evolving field, your primary responsibility will be to address the fundamental challenges that will ensure DeepL remains at the vanguard of AI capabilities.
• • Your responsibilities will encompass leading hands-on research and development efforts for our core text translation products, driving innovation in methodologies crucial for achieving perfect translation quality, as well as advancing translation quality estimation and evaluation techniques. You will be tasked with designing, training, and optimizing large-scale, LLM-based translation models to enhance multilingual accuracy, contextual understanding, robustness, and to meet diverse latency requirements. You will own the complete model delivery lifecycle, from initial prototyping and ablation studies to training, rigorous evaluation, optimization, and seamless production deployment. Close collaboration with engineering teams will be essential to integrate these advanced models into real-time systems, guaranteeing reliability, high uptime, and consistent quality at scale. Furthermore, you will drive enhancements in inference efficiency, model serving strategies, voice user experience, and robustness against real-world acoustic variations. Establishing robust practices for evaluation, ensuring reproducibility, implementing effective monitoring systems, and facilitating continuous model improvement in production environments will be key. Finally, you will play a vital role in mentoring junior researchers and engineers, fostering a culture of hands-on collaboration, and elevating the overall standards for model quality and operational excellence within the team.
