📋 Description

• Set technical direction for the Unstructured Content Portfolio, Broker Research domain by making build-vs-buy decisions, defining architecture, and owning the technical roadmap alongside product leadership.
• Transform ambiguous business problems into concrete technical initiatives by scoping work, identifying risks, and breaking down large initiatives into deliverable increments while driving alignment across teams.
• Design and deliver production-grade systems including scalable ingestion pipelines, robust microservices, and high-performance content delivery solutions that serve real users at scale with strict compliance and low-latency requirements.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) as a natural part of the engineering workflow, with formed opinions on their effective use and limitations.
• Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities such as LLMs, embeddings, and classification models into production systems when appropriate, without requiring deep ML research expertise but demanding sharp technical judgment.
• Drive cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority by leading RFCs, conducting architectural reviews, and building consensus on complex technical decisions across multiple engineering teams.
• Own end-to-end delivery of systems—from requirements and development to release, monitoring, and production support—including defining and maintaining SLOs/SLIs, troubleshooting incidents, and continuously improving reliability.
• Raise the engineering bar across the organization through rigorous code reviews, mentorship of junior and mid-level engineers, technical documentation, and modeling high standards in design, testing, and operational discipline.
• Operate within a domain focused on real-time acquisition, processing, and delivery of equity research from major brokers, including enforcement of entitlements across distributed systems where accuracy, compliance, and performance are critical.
• Work with systems handling thousands of content sets, multi-vendor API integrations, and complex rule engines for document processing and entitlement management affecting over 6,000 enterprise customers including a majority of the S&P 500.
• Contribute to a culture of autonomy and accountability where Staff Engineers own their technical areas and are empowered to make consequential decisions with long-term impact.
• Engage with hard, non-busywork problems such as multi-format document enrichment, real-time entitlements with sub-second latency, and large-scale rule engine optimization.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Python as the primary backend language, with proven experience shipping production code in at least two programming languages.
• Designed and owned production systems serving real users at scale, having made consequential architectural decisions and lived with their operational outcomes.
• Led cross-team technical initiatives without formal authority, such as driving platform migrations, architectural shifts, or system-wide changes requiring alignment across multiple teams.
• Strong system design instincts focused on failure modes, data flow, scalability, and operational cost, designing for maintainability over just shipping.
• Deep DevOps and operational experience with Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling; no throwing code over the wall.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising team standards through pairing, code reviews, RFCs, and leading by example.
